Anyone with that defense talking about building around Spillane when they have Max Crosby doesn't seem likely to get the interim tag removed from his title even with a couple of victories.

That is exactly right. Crosby is a beast. I thought precisely the same thing when I heard it.

I always liked Spillane, but he isn't in the same league as Max Crosby. He is a centerpiece player, not Spillane.

Every time a former Steelers player has a little success with another team, fans want to complain about the team not keeping that player .

If Leonard is still a backup in 2024 and making that type of money, he will probably get released.

    One can hope!!

That said, who knows?! It is very unlikely that Leo will ask for vet minimum assuming he is released. He will likely head to a team that runs predominately 4-3 given the fact he is a MLB by trade.

being that interim coach pierce was in the same mold as spillane i could see him saying that. he played a very similar role in his playing days with the giants. you have to admit spillane is playing well. 7 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, and a pick in that last game. the guy has played well for them. we are going to miss holcomb and alexander for sure. roberts is playing well but he's limited. he one of those types of LB'ers like spillane and pierce too. sometimes starter, sometimes backup but usually won't kill you when on the field.

Yes, it would have been nice if they could have gotten Spillane to return as a backup, but that wasn't realistic.

i never said i wanted him back, just that he was playing well since leaving here. it makes one wonder if some of our troubles at LB came from olsavsky's coaching the group more than the players themselves. i never cared for olsavsky's coaching by the way and was one that called for him to be replaced long before he was. liked him as a player. he was a try hard type, but he had our LB'ers playing like he did no matter who it was. i think walker could give us some good play in time.

Never forget when Spillane filled the hole and hit the beast of the Titans running back Henry for no gain on a 4 and 1 near the goal line. Classic hit and tackle by the middle linebacker.
