I posted in another thread about this but hey. I watched that game Monday night and what a fun defense to watch from Indy. Aggressive, fly to the ball style. They even talk about them doing this in practice and drills. Making a point of it. I want that. 4-5-6 guys around that ball on a tackle. This assignment heavy defense is not working. We are not aggressive. Our players are more worried about lining up in the proper spot more than getting to the football. That has been butler's MO even as a position coach, knowing your assignment over flying to the football to make a play. I see this in Thomas but if he isn't in the right spot and properly running his assignment he won't see the field. That's butler. Let these guys go. Practice aggressive defense. Run to the football and get there with a bad attitude. Multiple guys not one at a time trying to make the tackle. This is what I have been preaching and this makes for a tough defense which we used to be. The colts will be much improved with this style. I wish we had it here.

No doubt about it, the best defenses will be in the NFC this year, not only are several teams loaded with D talent but they have the better defensive coordinators to go along with their talent, and we are going to get a strong taste of defense when we play the NFC TEAMS......

I kind of think that is the problem with defense in the NFL in general. They have become so complicated guys have forgot the basics, including how to tackle. If not the whole NFL, surely it is a problem for the Steelers.

that game proved it could still be taught and played that way. you just have to put it in place and the players will follow. all these players from indy didn't just all of a sudden get aggressive overnight. they were told to play this way, practice playing this way and this is what is expected. heck thats fun for defensive players, they like that style. its addictive as they see it working. its a mindset. they all want to show they can play in it too, from top guy to bottom guy. turn them loose. :smiley1::cool:

I'm Jealous of the Ravens D, well their front 7.

Ozzie can't draft a WR to save his life, but he can draft guys in the trenches.

Doesn't a lot of that depend on what the offense is doing? If they spread you out, then they are dictating what you can do on defense. This is what Belichick does to other teams, he dictates a lot of what the defense can respond with. Obviously Pederson and the Eagles had an answer for him so Im not saying what you are preaching is impossible. Just curious.

I'm sure there are exceptions but it seems to me that teams ,especially defensive units take on the personality of their DC and or their HC if he is a defensive oriented coach....
I get where Mac is coming from and I think it's more than just teaching guys to be around the ball. I think it's a attitude ,a aggressiveness, guys on the same page playing downhill. Our communication issues are well documented. Why all the confusion? Sometimes plays are being run before our D is even ready. It actually happens quite often. Our D has lost its ability to dictate the game on their terms. It seems to be in a reactive state instead of proactive state and that comes from indecisiveness that is put in place by our coaching ....

Brady cracks under pressure in his face. Aggressive pass rush will make him squirm and he throws picks and off target. Tackle those catches with multiple players which causes turnovers. We already know if you sit back on him he will carve you up.

Colbert has to be blamed for the makeup of this poor talented defense. He also, has to be credited for this talented offense that he has assembled

Does he? This talented offense has a franchise QB that Colbert had little if anything to do with. AB was a 6th round pick and it's a fact that most late draft picks are a result of the scouts. That's by Colbert's own admission. Our franchise QB was getting killed until munchak got here and worked this group into something. Gilbert stunk until then. AV was an UDFA. Foster was an UDFA. Finney too. Hubbard too. Feiler too.

AB was pretty average and so were most of the receivers until Richard Mann got here. He taught them to block too which helped Bell become a good RB along with the line munchak fixed.

Jesse is average. We have spent a lot of money looking for TEs and have been through many. The search continues.

As far as the WRs. He also has to be credited with the Bryant's, Wheaton's and sweeds.

He has to be credited with the Carnell, porter, Jerry o, butler hirings on defense.

The munchak, Mann hirings on offense. Well finally after years of sub par attempts at good offensive coaches.

He should take into account the success of these vet offensive coaches and apply that to the defensive side, which he hasn't done.

15 years for cowher to win one. It's been now going on 11 for MT. That's 26 years to win 2 and lose 1. Especially with a franchise QB, the best WR and the best RB in the league. What have we won with Bell and AB? A lot of games, yes, but have we finished? No.

He could be a very good GM if he just hired some vet coaching on the defensive side. I think he has finally realized that but is it too little to late?
