So the massage king has some takes on steeler d. He should think twice about trashing a defense that has made life miserable for the browns offense. Heck, even when they beat us last year, the d kept us in it while Kenny was throwing dirt balls all afternoon. Watson should figure out if he actually wants to start game like his weird tap out games last year when he was cleared but stayed on the bench by his own will.
He is injury prone and not very accurate. Hell, his team was much better when a washed qb Flacco started for them and he was on the couch for first part of season and was still better than towel boy.

His game against the Steelers last year he threw a pick 6 to Highsmith and then fumbled the ball that Watt picked up and ran in for the winning TD. For a defense that he says is simple to read, Watson is 0-3 lifetime against it.

I haven't heard the clip where he actually says it, so maybe within that context it changes, but it wasn't bad. He just said they're very limited as to what they can do out of their base defense. Without sitting down and studying the film, maybe he's right. Maybe they run a limited number of coverages and a limited number of blitzes out of it. That doesn't mean that they're not good at it, it just means there isn't a lot that they do.

It's a mountain out of a mole-hill, kinda like what Ben said about defending against Lamar.

Makes me think of some of the critiques over the years of not making adjustments. It somewhat leans toward the "Bend but don't break" premise. It may look vanilla to some, but this is our defense and you have to beat it.

He is not wrong but at the same time,he has been awful against the steelers defense in his career(good in 2020 but awful in 2022 and he give us the game last year!)...So he is one of the last person who can said that!

Yes, there have been similar things said from various opposing players over the years. Some of the things that have been said is it is predictable or easy to figure out or what Watson just pointed out.

Year in and year out the defense is pretty solid though so don’t know how much that all means but maybe could be even better if they tweaked those things.

The Tomlin defense is allergic to the playoffs. Regular season they hold their own. Hopefully this changes in 2024.

Problem, our defense is awful against quality QB outside of few exception or in the playoffs...Under Tomlin, the Steelers gave 30 points or more 8 times in 18 games and another one of 29 points against Tebow...Under Bill Cowher, the steelers gave up 30 points or more only 3 times in 21 games and 2 of his times were in 2002 when our pass defense was awful all year long, likely our worst defense under Cowher

The injuries killed our defense last year. Reason a base d is simple is that the players can fly around and not have paralysis by analysis. Players can play fast is d is not too complicated.

I was not aware that he got out of the whirlpool bath long enough to form an opinion on the Steelers’ defense. Or anyone else’s, for that matter.

Exactly what I was going to say. ...but some will believe it. Like when teams were saying our offense was so simple they knew exactly what we were running....yet somehow we won 11 games straight. LoL....I guess Winston was just being nice to us...like those 11 straight teams were that year.
Yeah .....1st thing I tend to believe is what the opposition says. LoL
Its like a guy trying to make you mad in a fight. They aren't trying to make you mad for your sake.

I thought it was the defenses talking about the offense all these years.

The thing for DC is that Tomlin was happy to keep Butler for 7 years and it would have been longer if Butler wouldn't have retired and then hired a below average DC in Austin...And I'm sure Tomlin has a lot of power on defense since LeBeau is gone

The Steelers have spent so much money and draft capital for at least 10 years on defense, no reason to be that bad against almost every good offenses and to be historically bad in the playoffs for so long and it's likely not over.... Watson is right about that even if he's not the right person to say that

LeBeau's defenses struggled in the playoffs too, couldn't even stop Tebow .

Dude get a life, you researched this just to try to gas up Cowher , his defenses failed to get critical stops often in the playoffs even if they didn't give up 30 or more points.

At least he had some big moments in the playoffs....but his schemes were great for a long time but it's outdated since at least 2011...Yet instead of making a major change after 2014 when Lebeau was gone, they hired Butler who stayed with us for 7 very long years as DC even if the defensive system does not work against elite offense or in the playoffs....The Steelers were not the only ones to have this problem since the Packers with Dom Capers who had the same scheme also had this problem after 2010 and they kept Capers for way too long for some reason... The packers defense was a real disaster every January outside of 2010

Cowher just needed a QB who could step up big time come playoff time...Kordell(1997,2001) and Neil O'Donnell(super bowl XXX) had some historic bad games in big moments in their careers

yet lebeau went to tenn. and had the top secondary in the league. something he tried to get pittsburgh to have by how they drafted DB's back then. they drafted zone corners to play man defense. then blamed lebeau. dick gave them a FU while in tenn. for the next couple of seasons.

The titans were middle of the pack on defense in 2016 and 2017 with Lebeau as DC and he had been exposed against Brady in the 2017 playoffs once again

Again,LeBeau has been great for so long, his scheme was great in the 1990s and 2000s,but in the 2010s,his scheme was outdated
