I agree with not paying Woods the money he got from the Titans, but as you look down the roster tonight, it doesn't exactly strike fear into anyone. A NT that is a little small in the middle, and on either side is a guy (Hood) who hasn't lived up to any of his hype ( may sign elsewhere) and a fan favorite (Kiesel) who isn't that awful, but definitely not what he was a few years ago. Other than Cam, this line is below average, and if it doesn't get better soon, it won't matter the DBs, if any, we sign, as they will have no help from the line. Gotta say I'm a little worried as of tonight. Guess we will see what the next couple of days and weeks hold?

Do you think this could be an indication that Nix is actually in play in the first round?

Colbert needs to sign Worilds to a extension to free up some cap space, then he can sign some more free agents preferably D-line or LB. They may have to sign 2 DL free agents veterans, LeBeau takes forever to get some of the rookies on the field, so even if they draft some they probably won't get much playing time.

I guess the potential silver lining in your post is that neither Hood or Keisel are currently on the roster.

Prior to last season, yes but we saw Williams and Shark get a lot of playing time. With no one in front of them, a rookie will get on the field.

I don't worry about anything this time of year...its too early to well...worry about worrying, haha.

Anyways...Ziggy could be back and maybe another mid level vet FA and then see what the draft brings them too.

I've seen people talking about DE Alex Carrington from the Bills (still young)...and even Adam Carriker (a little older with some injury issues). Carrington is doesn't have a ton of starting experience but still. So who knows.

Well, it hasn't been a good day from the Steelers perspective. Maybe they have a plan...maybe they do, but it almost looks like the "let them test the market" theory is going to backfire on them this time. Yesterday we put S in the "ignore" column for the first round...and today, we put DE right back into the mix.

Last I heard, but that was a couple months ago. I'd have to think he's come a long way since then. I wouldn't buy his jersey just yet though...

Our D has holes everywhere. We didn't do a good job of replenishing talent the past 5 or 6 years. I think job #1 is figuring out what the heck we want to do with our DL. Last season we went with a smaller quicker NT because the league is going pass happy and we didn't want to get stuck with a 2 down run stuffing NT vs a hurry up attack ... and our entire defense went to hell. IMO McLendon isn't talented enough or disruptive enough to justify going smaller at NT. Right now we have a mish-mash of personnel that makes it seem like we can't make up our minds what the heck we're trying to do.

Agreed. With the moves we have made, recently, it seems to be fitting of a 4-3. Excluding Jarvis last year.

We don't have a lot of studs of any sort for any scheme. We're talent deficient right now, which is why I want to draft defense, defense, and more defense this draft.

Trouble is with LeBeau, it'll be 3 years before any talent we draft sees the field.

If they don't have DE's to play a 3/4 how in the heck are they going to play a 4/3.

You could be right but I see a different team this year with the player and coach changes the old way of acquiring potential defense and having them play 3-4 years after they sign might be
a thing of the past. Could this be a change of defensive philosophy. Lebeau won't be here in 4 years so is this the sign of coming change?

I believe so but lets see how this all plays out.

I think it is more a sign of guys not developing they way they thought they could combined with a guy getting what I would consider too much.

Perhaps.. It could also be the tired excuse of some coaches suggesting the reason the youngins don't play is because of DL scheme being difficult to learn. Granted DL is the master he certainly has not looked
like he is fielding a formidable team such as in the past. Lot of tired out old work horses going to pasture this year. Like TTF stated it is likely going to be " baptisim by fire"

I don't know why the Steelers didn't work out a 5 year contract instead of paying Worilds almost 10 million for one lousy year, this makes no sense to me...... By Ed Bouchette / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Now, we wait for the Steelers to drop the next shoes. They were assured Tuesday morning of keeping linebacker Jason Worilds for at least the 2014 season when it took him mere hours to accept the $9,754,000 transition deal they dropped on him Monday afternoon. By accepting, Worilds no longer can entertain offers from other teams because he no longer is a free agent. It’s not only a binding one-year deal, it also is guaranteed, and they would like to sign him to a long-term deal.
