Again the Browns gave the Steelers the Steelers 6th round pick back from Justin Gilbert. The trade is now basically Justin Gilbert for Sammie Coates and a 2019 7th round pick.....Winner Browns

True, but before this it was Justin Gilbert for a 6th, and the Browns could've picked Coates up off waivers, making it an even bigger win for the Browns.

Justin Gilbert played a season for the Steelers, that cost us a 6th round pick. That deal has nothing to do with Coates.

We upgraded our 7th to a 6th... that's what happened.

You can look at it how you want....We traded a 6th round pick for a guy no longer in the league...we traded Coates and a 7th round pick for that original 6th round pick....hence we gave up up Coates and a 7th for one year of Gilbert.....Math on that one is not that hard.

It was not my point...it is a factual statement. The Browns got the better of that trade....its ok...thats how trading works. Is risk reward...had Gilbert become an all pro...we would have been STEALING from them...but it didnt work that way....so they got the better of it...if anyone thinks otherwise...they got to take off their STEELER COLOR Glasses......but its like winning a preseason game...its still a W...but no one really cares.

You don't make an equation out of two completely unrelated maneuvers, in 2 different seasons... unless you have an agenda to drive.

It all boils down to upgrading a 7th rounder to a 6th rounder for a player we were going to release anyways. That's it. There is nothing else to boil in the pot, and certainly not last years left overs.

You always had smart, good insights into the game. This site has changed over time and not for the better. Basic lack of respect should never be tolerated. Not sure why its allowed here now.

 

I wonder if we will ever get the real story on Justin Gilbert. Is he a drunk, a compulsive gambler, dyslexic? Makes no sense to me how a guy with all that talent could wash out so quickly.

I fully admit that I thought it was a "Cleveland" thing and he'd be great once he got here. That much talent was worth a roll of the dice on a 6th imo.

Apparently Justin Gilbert wasn't into putting the time into be successful.

 

Regarding the Coates trade. I`m wondering if part of the thinking was to make sure he went to a bad team.

He's right, the stains basically just returned the Steelers 6th round pick back from the Gilbert trade for Coates. That's it.
