the thing about humphrey being a lefty turned some teams away from him. i think we may have been one, i don't know but if we were going to use our qb's under center more this year in canada's offense, it may have been one reason. the other getting one of the top TE's was a priority as well. you can't fill all your spots in one draft and we had many.

Wasn't one of the complaints about Freiermuth that tight ends normally take some time to develop? I don't remember if you wrote that, but I've definitely read it on this board. Given that it is true, this seems to be a tad early to start writing the guy off, especially given that his quarterback is playing like crap. More importantly, his quarterback isn't throwing over the middle, which limits the impact of the tight ends.

Maybe the Steelers were more aware of the need to rebuild than you realize. Humphrey was clearly the best option for 2021, but being able to get both Freiermuth and Green could end up being better in the long run.

Started with Ripple at 16 (my older sister would spring for the lovely screw top elixir for me and my gal pals). Then graduated to Red Mountain, Boone's Farm and Annie Green Springs in college. Then on to Lancers, Mateus and Blue Nun during early married life. Over time moved on to California Old Vine Zins and French Bordeaux including a few quite expensive Chateau Lafitte Rothschilds. Went from slob to snob over 3 decades. :drinks:

Never developed a taste for wine. It’s all sour to me. In my early 20’s we used to trade gunny sacks full of mackerel to the old Portuguese guys in Pt. Loma for their homemade burgundy wine. It was so strong, you’d have to cut it with 7-up. An early wine spritzer. I found out years later that they added ever clear to the wine!

It takes time to make an impact, but I'm not sure people run faster and learn to jump higher the more they play.

They often get stronger. If I remember correctly, you have questioned his ability as a blocker, too.

I see where this is going in two different directions. One is about his athleticism, which won't change. The other is his overall upside, which includes other factors such as his ability to run routes and improvise when necessary. Those are areas in which he can get better.

I don't think he's going to be a player like Kelce, for example, but that upside like Heath Miller certainly sounds like something the Steelers could use, something worthy of a second-round pick.

Also, as I mentioned above, pretty much every ranking had him among the top 50 players in the draft and many had him in the top 40. He was very unlikely to make it to the second round.
