IIRC, Humprhys is a road grader, they wanted Green for his athleticism which fits the outside zone they are running. Is it outside zone we are running? Don’t even remember now but whatever it is, they felt his athleticism was a better fit.

They got the steal of the draft with Trey Smith.

Creed was a C in college. Green played C 3 or 4 times total.

It's not uncommon for coaches to want a more raw player so they don't have to coach out bad habits and unlearn certain things that don't apply to their way of doing things.

Let's compare them in a year or two.

The choice is Humphrey and somebody else or Freiermuth and Green, not Humphrey or Green, unless you think Freiermuth was somehow going to slip to them in the third round.

The Steelers needed somebody who could start year 1 and Humphrey was certainly a more ‘plug and play’ prospect. I was surprised they passed on him at the time. He has hit the ground running for KC as expected

Green could turn out to be great but he is going to take some time by the looks of it.

What's with the owl schtick? Between that and "clickbait", you got anything else to contribute?

Freiermuth is a nice TE, not Tony Gonzalez or Rob Gronkowski or Kelce or Kittle. I think he's being severely overrated here.

I'd rather have the next anchor of the OL.

Clearly Humphrey is better now, and would have been a far better “win now” pick. I said so during the draft. Time will tell whether he’s a better long-term player.

I said that we needed to do way more than we did to solve the immediate O line issues if we wanted to win now with Ben. I feel that recent events are proving me right with respect to the O line. However, it is looking more and more like I was wrong to even consider winning now with Ben to be a possibility.

Well, pardon the guy for not being on track for the Hall of Fame. :)

I also would have preferred Humphrey. My point was that it simply isn't accurate to make it a one-to-one comparison with Green. Humphrey cost a second-round pick. Green cost a third.

If Ben had not comeback I think the Steelers would have went Tackle in the 1st and Center in the 2nd.

I would also had lost the farm this year as I was sure the Steelers were going to take Creed when they picked in the 2nd round.

He's not that kind of athlete. Ceiling is Heath Miller - a good TE, solid, not a game breaker or someone the D has to scheme for. Overdrafted, IMO.

The Steelers would take another Heath Miller in the second round without hesitation. In no way would that be overdrafting. If I remember correctly, he was regarded by most as one of the top 50 prospects in the draft.

Here are a couple of rankings from before the draft.

I still think they would have been better off taking Humphrey, but Freiermuth was not a reach and, as I mentioned above, it is misleading to make Humphrey and Green a one-to-one comparison because one went in the second round and the other in the third.

A single point does not make a line. He would still be flanked by the likes of Okorafor, Moore, Dotson and Turner while being coached by Klemm. There’s no guarantee that he would perform well in Pittsburgh with that crew
