No. I don't want to wait until next draft. I thought that was clear. My bad.

So you don't have the patiece to wait for a better option, you just want to run the Kenny pickett experience all over again instead?

That's what i thought, my bad.

That is what I've been saying, I thought, loud and clear. You call it the Kenny Pickett thing, not me. Saying take a chance. You seem to be saying don't take a risk at all.

    Is that correct?

It is the Kenny Pickett thing.

I'm saying take a chance with a better chance of success.

Khan and Weidl have seemingly done well with their first two drafts. As for development, one of the things that can give you an idea how a team is doing is to look at the post-rookie contract values of their draftees. It's no end-all/be-all, but overall it can give a general sense of things.

If those Day One/Day Two picks aren't earning contracts around 70th-percentile or greater relative to their position, it might be a sign that you're either having trouble identifying good talent, or developing it (possibly both). If they go elsewhere and eventually land a big contract it could be signaling some developmental or salary cap issues, though it could just be an overpay by the other club.

I read an article that broke down a recent window of drafts this way a couple of weeks ago, but can't find it right now. The Steelers weren't terrible, but they were below average. Their main issue was not developing enough players to qualify for that level of contract. The Eagles were the best at both producing and retaining.

Maybe, but I think the thought process for any team in the market for one has to not just be do they want to draft one, but what value do they put on each. Being that it's the QB position the value gets a bump, including some grace given for a moderate reach, but get carried away and you risk damaging the quality of other areas of your roster.

These are the teams who I feel could be looking for a QB, the urgency I think each has in taking one, and their picks through the Steelers fifth round selection. You can judge for yourself which picks a team might use and for whom. The Steelers are in their usual purgatory position, exacerbated by not having a 2nd this year. I still think they'll try and move somebody to regain it.
