nice comeback. LOL they only hand out a trophey to the best team, not the one they think should win it like the BCS. we had a pretty good team then. we were solid all around. injuries play a role during the season. part of the reason the giants didn't have a better record in the regular season. they got those guys back at the end of the year and they lifted them up as the best team. we were good heading into the playoff that year. we had indy beat soundly if the calls didn't screw that up. that's what ended up making that game closer then it should have been. the fumble at the end hurt us or we really would have spanked the colts, who everyone thought was so much better then us and at home. we were a good team and i can't believe you don't think so.

Wasn't meant as a come back, I didn't know you were 15 years old. It was meant as I really don't feel like wasting my time arguing such a ludicrous statement. If you guys think we were the best team in the NFL that year, then fine but to me, that would be as futile as arguing that a cow is a cow and you trying to tell me it's a giraffe, just not worth it. And Shaner, you're kind of agreeing with me, we played the best in the playoffs, still doesn't mean we were the best team in the league that year. Does anyone really think GB wasn't the best team last year?

They weren't the best when it counted. What does that say?

This is a compelling discussion. I think part of the problem is that there is no standard for measure. So, how is everyone measuring the best?

I don't believe that the "best" or "better" team always wins in the regular season or the playoffs. There is a certain degree of luck, intangibles (home field advantage) and human error involved in winning.

To some, the best team is the team that wins the super bowl. Can't really argue with that. Others like to discuss and compare the strengths and weaknesses of the teams and how those strengths and weakness combine to determine who is the best team. This cannot be so easily answered.

Played the best, big difference. So by your logic, if we go on a great run like we did that year, winning the last 4 games of the season just to even make the playoffs and we go on to win the SB, that means we are the best team this year huh? Give me a break. I'll admit we were the best team in the SB that year but not all the playoffs. And Seattle sure as hell wasn't the best team in the NFC.

isn't that what a game is about? we won 8 straight games. that's half a season of do or die football. did any other team? yes i thought we were the best team that was in the playoffs that year capable of beating any other playoff team.

Whoever wins the last game is the best team that season - period. There can only be one. I remember a year, not so long ago, when we went 15 - 1 and lost in the AFC Championship. I don't remember ever thinking "Well, we were the best team that year, we just didn't win the Superbowl." Whoever wins the Superbowl is the best team that season, that's the point of the Superbowl, to end all argument.

Well doesn't going undefeated in the playoffs automatically make them the best team? I mean perhaps they're not the best team on paper, but that's why the games are played, as the best team on paper doesn't always win. If they win when it counts and if they go undefeated in the playoffs, how can you say a team they beat is better than them?

Guys, guys. We were the best team in the playoffs that year. We just had to get in to win. Were we the best team half way through the season? NO! And it wasn't even close. That loss to Cincinnati where Ben threw 3 picks was beyond brutal. 14 weeks into the season (or whatever it was) and we weren't even the best team in our division. But we got our stuff together, didn't we? Went on quite the well-timed rampage. I remember Dan Marino telling people to watch out for us before the playoffs started. I was cranky he ruined our secret, because I thought I was the only person that knew all we had to do was get in, and we'd make a serious run that no one saw coming.

So, in 2005 we were playing like crap in the final quarter of the season... and in 2012 we've only played 5 games so far. I think we can wait until at least week 6 or 7 before giving up entirely, can't we?

Now if we can just get Farrior, Smith, Joey Porter, Deshea, a healthy Troy, and Alan Fanneca to come back I can totally see history repeating itself.
