Controversial, but Omar Khan and possibly Tomlin should be terminated if they fail to sign a QB

If Omar is going to be dragged into the mud for anything, point to the lack of Offensive Line Depth. Ryan McCollum, Spencer Anderson, Calvin Anderson, Max Sharpling and newcomer Steven Jones from Jacksonville; that is, more or less, the depth heading into 2025 as of current. Unless the plan is to trade back or nab depth at the end of the draft through either UDFAs or other existing FAs, Khan has botched the handling of depth on the Offensive Line.

As far as other positions?! Defensive Line depth is also one but I'd suspect the Steelers will double dip that position during the draft. Corner?! Guess the usual rollout of JPJ, Darius Slay, Cory Trice Jr, CJ Henderson, Beanie Bishop and whomever else will suffice... for better or worse.

Wide Receiver is the wild card despite the trade and extension of D.K. Metcalf. George is on the team but only for one season until he is extended. Roman Wilson is very much an unknown while CA III needs to perform in a big way this season.

    This.

What needs to happen this season is that both 2023 and 2024 classes need to go off (in the case of 2023) and/or step it up (2024 class). No ifs, ands or buts. That is what I'd imagine Khan, Weidl and Tomlin are heavily banking on.

That said, beyond the aforementioned O Lineman I named, of those names, only McCollum and Anderson are battle proven depth players.

They could have gotten help for both lines in free agency, but yes, the offensive line is the worst of it.

They should have just resigned Russ. I’d take him over Rogers any day. Maybe 4-5 years ago a different story. You’re right they messed this up badly. Now Rogers has all the leverage in the world. That’s the last thing we want. Don’t like him much.

This problem goes back to 2020, when Ben was at the end of his career and there were a number of intriguing Qb’s in the draft like Justin Herbet and Jordan Love, guys who could’ve been ready to go once Ben retired a year later. instead we give our first round pick to miami for Minkah, who was a great safety but we honestly couldve gotten a good safety in FA. We needed an heir apparent to Ben to take over at that time.

I think these decisions are group decisions among the owner, GM, and HC and his staff. They all screwed up. The one guy though that probably needs to go is Tomlin; Khan is new in his position but Tomlin has been around forever, with no postseason success in nearly 10 years. Its time for a change there.

I loved the Kenny Picket draft pick. It was 1 first round pick for a QB. I was scared to death that year that they were going to pull a SF49ers trade and give away 3 first round picks to move up in the draft that year.

1 year flop doesn't concern me.

It was curious that the local media said they were not scouting QBs at the shrine or the Senior bowl.

Drunk Post, on my cruise. Dirty Bananas and a Coors light for the win. :)

Kahn's job is to acquire talent at positions of need while being mindful of the cap and positional spending. As a rookie GM his voice may not have been as loud as Tomlin's in the room, but he did an admirable job his first outing. And unfortunately, Kahn does not hire the coaches. Tomlin's choice in OCs have set this team back to the '80s. And his expertise on defense is questionable when ex-NFL players openly laugh about the Steelers scheme. That's an indictment on Tomlin not Kahn.

And if you are really paying attention, Kahn is being very deliberate with how he is handling FA this season. Other than DKM, he's being careful not to sign big names to big contracts in order to protect the comp picks for the 2026 draft. As it stands now, the Steelers could be looking at an extra 3 picks. That's a bonanza the Steelers haven't had in a long time. Any big signings have the potential to offset this. And, there is no signing this year that will get them even close to a conference championship, let alone the SB.

I don’t even know why I’m reading this nonsense. Wake me up in 2042 when Tomlin actually gets held accountable for something. Khan is not an issue here. He’s doing as best he can with the pieces he’s allowed to play with.

Unfortunately, that's not really the roles of a GM.
If the GM identifies a coach as problem, which may or may not be the case here, then as 'General Manager of Football Operations' it is his job to remedy that.
It has happened 100's of times over the years...
Omar is not a horrible GM, just a weaker one.
Is it time to fire him? No, but things do have to improve from the front.
And to elaborate a little further, His JOB, is to be on the same page with his Head Coach and together they determine the types of skills and players that they can use to be very good football team. The Head Coach knows via his OC and DC the schemes they want to run.

One of the baffling things is, Pittsburgh needs a QB.
It's pretty obvious don't you think? It has been that way since Ben was on the decline which was also obvious.
Now Omar doesn't own all that, he was here, but he just got the keys.
But it has to be pretty damn obvious that he needs to get something done.
There is a pretty straight forward understanding that a lot of GMs have been fired for less. Which I am not promting.

    Winning is top-down.

You are assuming the Steelers hierarchy operates the same as the rest of the NFL. It doesn't. Look no further than the Cowher/Donahoe era to understand.

Defensive line depth? We don’t have a starting defensive end. We also don’t have a starting qb. This belief that we will just double dip at defensive line and everything is fixed is comical. Kahn has royally screwed this team for two consecutive years.

To steal a line from Stripes “take it easy Frances”. We are in a re build and throwing a bunch of money at a guy that is not a long term solution isn’t the way to go. Fields wants assurances that he would be starting, I think a guy should worry about earning his position rather than being presented to him. My guess is that Rodgers had a bunch of asks that I’d rather not see us capitulate to. If we need to go 5-12 with Mason, so be it, that sets up the eventual rebuild we need. We have to upgrade at a lot of positions and I noticed we signed several two year deals to avoid being stuck with a massive contract. Teams are basically on 3-5 year rebuilds to be competitive.

Lol. I was sitting at the Casino Bar trying to figure out where I was at on the drunk meeter. Could I still count up to 21, or was it time to call it a night.

I think I had to edit that last message about 5 times, so I decided to call it a night after that. :)

The Steelers have completely mis-manged this situation. I hope to hell they know what they are doing but not but I don't believe this is going to end well and back to the drawing board next year.
