The NFL just announced that Alex Highsmith was named AFC defensive Player of the Week. Highsmith had 2 sacks, a forced fumble and 5 tackles against the Saints. He is currently 4th in the NFL in sacks with 8.5 sacks. Congratulations to Alex Highsmith!

I actually think if Watt played all Year they both would be above 10 sacks right now.

Someone pointed out in the Game Day Thread that Buds production vs his salary was not out performing Alex's worth.
Who gets credit for Alex's continuing rise? TJ? LB coach? Alex? Regardless its a positive and nice to see.

I need to point out that out of Highsmith's 8.5 sacks, 5 of them came in games Watt played. 3 Against the Bengals and 2 against the Saints. Take from that what you will, but it seems that teams have been able to concentrate on Highsmith when Watt was injured, and now they can't. Expect to see those numbers go up bigly in the next few games.

So, now can we please stop seeing mock drafts where the Steelers use their 1st round pick on an edge player!

If the edge player is Will Anderson, no, you won't stop seeing it. I think there is some thought that he could play inside and be a situational pass rusher, sort of like Lawrence Timmons or Chad Brown.

What is more impressive is how often he got doubled along the way as well to get to that figure. I would imagine that he will meet his own accomplishment of having a double digit sack season either by next week or the week after. What's more though is what is to come in 2023.

Now, I would imagine the idea is to sign Highsmith long term but quite a number of players have their contracts up. Granted, I still do believe Highsmtih will be signed long term. Question remains as to how much?!

Yesterday's price is not today's price. Average value of EDGE players like Highsmith anymore is roughly between $13-16 Million.

    Point is well made though.

EDGE is not a cost efficient position. Quite a bit of money to invest in; doubly so in the caliber of someone like T.J. Watt. My hope is that the team should resign Highsmith.

If they do not for whatever reason, I would imagine that said position does get picked within the first three picks. EDGE is simply too important a position in the NFL; doubly so given the Steelers History of 3-4 OLBs. Remind you what the defense looked like without T.J. Watt after Week One?! It was essentially Highsmith; no one else really at the position.

Have to keep that proverbial cupboard relatively stocked.
