Is it just me or does it look as if the Steelers are the only team in the league that every season half of the starting o-line ends up with ankle and knee injuries that start in the preseason and go right through the regular season.? Adams hurt already and a few others like Decastro and Colon, does the strength and conditioning have anything to do with this or do we just happen to have linemen that have weak ankles which is possible. I remember high school ball and we had a beast at ILB, he would get 3 sacks a game but he usually missed 3 or 4 games a season because of high ankle sprains, I remember him being mad because the othepedic doctor told him he had weak ankles. The only weak part on him, the coach used to have is ankles taped up it was a wonder he could even move but it does make me wonder since this seems to happen every season, do our linemen have weak ankles or is it just bad luck?

My opinion - injuries in football are random and unpredictable.

bk, there are so many arms, legs, body's flying different ways in there that i'm suprised there are not more injuries. it has nothing to do with conditioning. look at DJ, minding his own business and doing his job , only to have 6-6 330 lb. gilbert get pushed around like a rag doll to come falling on his leg from the backside. it happens. there's about 2 tons of human mass flying around on any given play in the pocket.

It's just the nature of the beast. For years we were fortunate regarding injuries, now it's just balancing out.

Exactly, it really is a wonder that more people aren't injured. Of course, DJ would still have a season to play for if not for Raggedy Anne being thrown about

Yes, poor conditioning will absolutely cause injuries, but just because they are getting injured doesn't mean it's as a result of poor conditioning. Maybe it is partly to blame, maybe not, we'll likely never know.

One thing you gotta ask yourself, are the Steelers players getting injured at much higher rate than the league average, or do you just notice it more due to following the Steelers so closely?

The Steelers OL have not exactly been known as a group of guys that are into conditioning with the exception of Pouncey. I definitely think it has something to do with the injuries.

The problem with this logic is Pouncey, the O-lineman know most for being into conditioning, is almost always one of the guys who ends up getting hurt. Conditioning does not affect people getting feet stepped on, getting another guy tossed onto you, or having someone fall on you.

This was a huge topic last year, with the lockout...
    Now, it`s still happening.
I tend to agree that injuries are just a random part of the game, and it is surprising that more severe ones don`t happen more often... maybe due to their conditioning... :?
Think about it... if you took a buncha average Joes, that DIDN`T work out, and condition themselves the way professional athletes do, and had them play a game of tackle football, what percentage of THEM, do you think would wind up getting injured?
My guess is, better than half of em!
And the older they get, the higher the percentage would be! :hmmm:
We played a pickup game of football with my machine shop, vs an auto body shop a few years ago, and hardly anyone who made it into work the Monday after could move around, without, limping/moving stiff, like a zombie, when the average age of the "players" was about 30, and NONE were Gym Rats... Just sayin... :yeehaw:

I have always had problems with this subject, I am at a loss with all the hamstring
and groin injuries that arise thruout players careers? Why do some players stay
injury free and others do not? I guess this is the million dollar question?

Add John Clay to the injured list. According to Steelersdepot, he was carted off the field. Jeez...
