I would have traded him. I don't think he has that change of direction anymore . I hope I am wrong but that's what made him great as a runner and a WR . I hope it was rust,if not we have seen the best of Bell for his NFL career .

He should have signed the Steelers way too generous offer. LOL, too late.

RUST!!!!! He was slow to recognize the timing of the screen play and he was losing his footing trying to change direction. I remember James Harrison saying being on the field and running is a lot different that training, it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to be in football shape versus training shape.

I hope someone hangs a fake check for $17,000,000 over his locker with the word VOID written on it.

If you're going to talk that much trash, you damn well better back it up.

I'm gonna half it up to rust. Not like he just suddenly lost his ability.

He was rusty. Oline was rusty. Ben was rusty.

As the games go on Bell will get better.

He actually put up similar numbers rushing a few times last year as well - when he was in full football shape.

The receiving was more of a worry, for me, as that's ultimately where his value lies (the dual threat).

But the offense as a whole looked pretty out of sync. Let's wait at least a few more games before seeing where he's at.

Calm down.. They were slowly working him in and hopefully trying to keep his touches down. Maybe punishing him too. Browns were stacking the box.

Statement: sure there's a word filter in place, but let's try to have a little bit of class and not drop f-bombs in thread titles.

There would have been no rust if he would have nutted up and showed up for camp. I get the fact of avoiding injury, but the holdout accomplished zip. He will be himself in a few games...but it should have been game 1. For veterans, camp is needed for timing and getting back in that rhythm.

AB showed he is def worth his young money contract. Bell will never get 15 million. If he thinks that in today's RB market, then he's smoking again and doing a good job hiding it.

Fugly win...but we always play to level of competition. We are 1-0 and I'm happy about it.

    And over the hill
    We droppin' our offer
    Down to 9 mil

Yes, he was rusty, and so was Ben and the oline. However, the Pats showed the league how to stop Bell in last years playoff game: out wait him, be more patient. He needs a counter move, a one cut and hit the hole move, or he's going to see his ypc go down in a hurry. Good thing we have Conner and Watson who have a different style than him.

I`m wondering if it is intentional instead of rust to make us pay for not paying him $15mil/year. I really, really hope not.

I agree to an extent. The playcalling was also not going to his strengths, and we all saw them run straight into an 8-man box. Nobody's going to do well there, rust or not.

If Conner gets up to speed with the pro game, then we could have a devastating 1-2 punch when the offense gets its head in gear.

No way. If the Steelers won't pay, you want someone to be willing to. You don't get those offers by playing like warmed up excrement.

Uh, no. He may be an idiot, but he's not stupid. This does nothing to back up his claims.

I'm waiting to see if someone else thinks this was Greg Williams variant of the wide 9 because the offense has absolutely no idea what to do with it.

Bell will be back on track from here on out. Good thing is when one weapon like Bell is slowed down it just opens up things for guys for Outlaw and AB. Once the offense as a whole starts clicking look out.

That was great. Change last line: "To 9 mil per year" for the rhyme.

Hey, imagine Art Rooney II doing that rap. I would die laughing.

I did find myself wondering that during the game.

Although I still don't really know what the wide 9 is.

The playcalling didn't even seem to be going to him at all during the first part of the game.

Not trying to be an apologist, but the whole offense looked rusty and the play calling did them no help. I don't think Bell has lost any ability, a week or two of practice will do wonders.

I was wondering if Haley came up with the game plan before Bell returned on Sept 1.

Didn't seem like the run game was much of a focus but rather relying on quick passes.
