    BS.

Mason and Wallace and Alexander and adams should have netted us something.

Were we expecting one? I think they signed more free agents than they lost last offseason.

I wouldn’t be expecting one next offseason either

    Mason

Are you missing the part where the picks are based on what happened last year

I gave you a face palm so @OB1@OB1 doesn't feel like he is the only one

Lol, I think he was pointing to the fact that comp picks are based upon who a team lost/gained in FA the previous offseason.

IRL is correct above, they actually signed more than they lost. They aren't projected to get any from any of the reports I've seen (only 32 are allowed each year).

We signed a boatload of FAs last year so it would surprise me if we get any comps

They won’t have a chance with those guys until next year.

i understand that but doesn't the complicated formula the NFL uses to determine much of this also take into account how much each contributed to the former team?

You may have something there Mac, remember when the steelers signed a WR, then cut him before a certain deadline and were still able to get a comp pick. Not sure if this is not exactly what you are saying, but within that narrative.

i thought what they did for the team as opposed to what a player brought in did for the team was part of how they based the one player for another formula to base what we gained as opposed to what we lost in free agency. holcomb, alexander, peterson, robinson did very little for us last year. sullivan, adams, mason, wallace did more for us than the players we brought in with free agency. i know there is some type of performance and amount of pay involved in the mysterious formula they use.

    Here

It’s actually pretty concise and simple ;)

They haven’t lost Mason to FA yet, he could very well end up signing back here. He won’t count until next off season should he leave.

Not really. The formula looks at the APY of the contract signed with the player's new team against the rest of their peers at the position, snap count with the new team, and any postseason honors awarded with the new club (so the 2023 FA class for the upcoming draft). The only role their performance prior to 2023 plays is in achieving whatever contract they were offered in last year's free agency. The baseline qualification for a CFA (compensatory free agent), is to be within the top 35% of contract APY at their position.

If that baseline is met, points are assigned for things like snap count and postseason awards with the new club. Then the points for each CFA lost is compared to those of any CFA signed by each team to determine if a compensatory pick should in fact be awarded, and in which round.

Good summary. Thanks for saving me the trouble.

I would also note that resigning your own free agents has no impact either.

Wouldn’t resigning your own free agents potentially be a free agent that you didn’t lose which would factor into the formula?

The formula considers gains and losses, so technically no. However retaining your own free agent is one less loss going into the formula.
