There are reports they did, but he won't be eligible this week.

I'm not exaggerating anything. I just don't understand switching punters at this stage of the season. I hope he starts booming 50+ yarders with incredible hang times but I won't hold my breath waiting for those results.

He can't punt tomorrow...Can he? Has to go through protocol?

I don't them remember them deciding someone was not good enough, cutting them, and then later deciding to bring them back for performance and not injury reasons.

He can punt. Apparently the clock starts as soon as they are brought in, not as soon as they are signed.

Very strange indeed, I looked at a dated FA list, got to say the list of punters was not only small, but had like one notable name, lol. Berry can boom a punt, then shank the next one. That said I wonder if there is more than just the punting. Was his holding for Boz (though the has been perfect) a concern as well? I do not think you gain or lose much with this change, just strange.

I hope Berry takes advantage of this second chance and finds his groove. I'm sure the relationship with Boz was a factor in bringing him back. Kickers probably like that familiarity with their holders.

Speculation was that they made arrangements to have him tested everyday to meet the 5 day test requirement

Bring up the kid. Actually he’s like 25 but bring him up. Why the heck are you bringing back a guy you cut because you deemed him not good enough.

Maybe he’s insurance in case Waitman fails horribly but I doubt it, probably just rolling with Berry.

Or if he just stops shanking them at the least opportune moments...

If you say it's a pretty dumb move and we're talking about PUNTERS that avg 2 yrds between each other than yes it's a overreaction to say it's a "pretty dumb move". At the very most it's a "what do we have to lose?" move. That includes, as some have suggested, even if they were bringing in a professional soccer player to try out. You act like they're switching quarterbacks. it's not that big of a drop off regardless of who they bring in. Relax. You act like they got Ray Guy sitting back there. Not to mention, it's not game 12....it's game 6...and even if it was game 12 I'm still not sure if it would be too late since we're talking about PUNTERS.

My guess is that your issue is not with the timing at all, but the perception that having a 0 in the loss column means that you're not flawed (or if it's not broken don't fix it). Even a good team has flaws and the punting is one of the biggest if not the biggest flaw of this team. I'm almost convinced it would be a concensus vote. If they had a mediocre record punting would be a bigger story and we're not having this debate and timing isn't even brought up. So once again, your concern, is a overreaction.

The best punter the Steelers have had in my 31 years of watching the Steelers is Chris Gardocki in 2005. Everyone before and after has been D+ or worse.

Based purely on average it’s been Berry.

Obviously, Average is not a sole indicator, obviously.

Someone stated earlier that Boswell should remain tranquil with the holder.

Just throw a deep INT, ditch the punting position.

Have Claypool on the field & have Ben play ss again so he doesn't score.

Have a receiver down there in triple coverage. One of them will grab it then the receiver will be there to tackle him right away.

Or they will just bat it away and give their O great field position. Think man, think.

Sepulveda was mid tier, but was not that bad. The acl injury pretty much took him out. A few years before your time the Steelers for one year, 1982, had a barefooted punter. I believe he was Craig Colquitt's replacement in a year he may have been injured.
