I really REALLY think bringing in Starks would be a step in the wrong direction. We're building our line of the next 10 years, so why not let them get used to playing with each other right away. Most people agreed that skill wise it was Kalil slightly ahead of Adams, just Kalil was clean as a whistle and Adams had a lot of red flags. Before the draft, enough of those red flags went away for the team to draft him in the second. If by some miracle we had Kalil, there would be no question as to who would be starting. Adams would be an immediate upgrade from EVERYONE we had last year at that position. People keep saying "a rookie left tackle is going to get Ben KILLED!" as opposed to him already being the most sacked quarterback in the league. He is also the most sacked quarterback in Steelers history already and is on pace to be the most sacked quarterback in NFL history, yet he's alive and well. Whoever we have there not named Adams would be a HORRIBLE decision. Lets examine.

Starks? NOT EVEN ON THE TEAM!!! His name pops up the most but he's injured and not even a Steeler and he wasn't one at the beginning of last year for a reason. Only reason we brought him back is because everyone and their little sister got hurt last year and he was the best free agent tackle not doing anything in October. Add one more injury to an already beat up tackle and I don't see why the front office would even consider signing him little lone STARTING him.

    J. Scott? See last season's games where he started. Adams is a lot better than Scott would ever be.

Gilbert? Yeah lets take a young progressing right tackle and halt his progression to swing him to the left side because we don't have faith in a rookie, what can go wrong? I think this move is the most hurtful of them all. It stops Gilbert from progressing on the right side. As a rookie starter he did great and I think he and Pouncey doing what they did when they came in is what is causing to the front office to have faith in rookies all of a sudden. At least in terms of linemen. It would halt Adams progression, if he's our lineman of the future why hold him back when we need him NOW? The Steelers have always sat rookies their first few years to learn because we've always had the luxury of having good starters in front of them to ease them into the league. We have no such luxury at the left tackle position this year and Adams is an immediate upgrade of what we have on the roster. And the third way this move hurts, is now that we know Colon is moving to guard, it would cause him time to learn that position as well. Gilbert would go to the left and Colon would have to stay on the right then when Adams is ready go back to left guard? Makes no sense! He even said he was glad the front office told him after the draft instead of midway through the season. This move is not likely to happen at all now and good because I thought it would have been the wrong move BIG TIME!.

Adams is our best option at left tackle. Moving Colon to guard just makes it seem like this move is imminent so why fight it? And for what reason? Because people don't trust rookies at left tackle? Well I don't trust horrible players at left tackle and it seems neither does the front office. So Adams, time to step up kid. Go Steelers!!

It really does show how weak we WERE. How come DeCastro was named the starter before he even suited up for his first practice? Because he is already better than anything we have on the team right now, and I feel the same about Adams. He is already better than anyone we have at left tackle. If he didn't have character issues and we had taken him in the first, no question we'd be wanting him to start right away. He seems to be cleaning up his act and the talent is there, so why not?

I agree with the sentiment here. But there is one difference between Adams and all the rest - he hasn't played a down in the NFL yet. And that is a big difference. Just ask Limas Sweed.

I hope he develops quickly, and I think we all want him on the line as soon as possible. But it would just really surprise me if the Steelers, of all teams, have decided before training camp starts, that Adams is starting.

Like they've decided DeCastro is our starter already? How many downs has he played in the NFL?

Excellent decision because now we improve at two positions. Marcus Gilbert is a prototype RT that could be dominant for years. Not to mention what this does for Colon. I believe Willie becomes All-Pro material inside. I can't wait to see this O-line.

if adams works out, then one of our biggest weaknesses just became one of our biggest strengths............ i've been saying for quite some time that if colon can stay healthy he could be a fixture in the pro bowl..........ben and the running backs will be quite happy!!!!!!!!

Owen Schmitt was signed by the Raiders this week and he was one of the lowest rated run blocking FBs in the league according to one of the sources I saw.

What about this new kid Will Johnson? Dwyer was saying he (Will Johnson not Dwyer) is attending the fullback meetings and I found an article saying we signed him after seeing him at West Virginia's pro day this year. He's 6'2" 242 ran a sub 4.5 in the 40 and put up 30 reps in the bench press.

    Here's the article:

RG is the perfect spot for Colon,he is a good run blocker he blocks down very well......As I stated in the other thread Adams is the best down blocker I have seen in a long time....

Adams will start at LT day 1.....Coach K and Coach H know exactly what they are doing.....Look for us to run 35 trap and 35 Counter Trey a bunch, off of which we will run the trap pass to the TE when he is strong left and will use the QB waggle when he is on the weak side.....All of these things will work together to slow the pass rush....Adams would have had a tough time if BA was still calling the plays.....

Haley will make Adams job so much easier with the play calls and route tree....Under BA guys just wanted to get the corner from that side, they had all day to get there and they had no run responsibilty because we rarely ever tried to run that way....Now if that DE wants to blow up field great we can block down pin the LB'S and trap the Safety with Decastro....

Also a huge plus is the running of Redman his tape shows he is a stronger runner when he starts left and cuts back right, there are a few reasons for that....The 1st. being his plant leg his right leg is his power leg this makes it harder on the D to bring him down when he cuts......He is also a natural spinner counter clock wise this also works better when running left....Last but not least he is very strong in his upper body as well,so by running left at cutting right he has a serious stiff arm when he changes direction....

I can hear Teams crying Already, somebody please help me get this guy on the ground.....We heard some of that last year and with the draft and the move of Colon we will hear it almost every game.....

I also thought he's best suited for RG but if the coaches say LG then I trust them. With a strong line and a strong down hill runner, I'm very excited for this upcoming season. Got a probowl center, 2 road grading guards and two young tackles full of potential. Add that to a RB that doesn't do too much dancing and hits the hole with authority, sky's the limit for our offense. Strong running game with definitely open up the passing game and I can't wait to see what Roethlisberger can do with time and 3 young and fast wide outs in Wallace, Brown, and Sanders. Let's not forget about Heath, hopefully he won't have to stay in and block all the time now and can actually go out and catch a pass or two haha.

PWP I am calling it already for the opener at Denver. Best way to beat Manning keep him off the field by running the ball and chewing up the clock. The Bronco had a hard time stopping Redman in the wildcard game. So I expect a punishing run game planned for that match-up

Obviously they wouldnt call him before the draft and tell him he would be moving to Guard...as they didnt know what gifts (DeCastro & Adams) were going to fall into their laps come the draft. Since they did it gave them the ability to move Colon where he should be. Had they not drafted the players they did...it still COULD have happened...but it probably would have been less likely...but we'll never know, all we can do is speculate.

I'm not saying I want to bring back Starks and have him start...if the team feels Adams is the man then he is the man (if not then sure plug Starks back in). I personally would like Starks back as the swing backup to replace J Scott (once Starks is cleared and good to go). Starks is a major upgrade over J Scott...Scott is NOT a good LT (as we all found out)...he is a decent RT...but thats about it...yes he has come to the rescue of the team at times with injuries...but his play is well below the level. Having Starks as the swing back up upgrades a backup position and should save the team a good bit of money. The reason I posted my above message was to kinda defend Starks based on the quoted comments.

If Schmitt were still a FA I'd be all for it, but he isnt.

Though I did read that rookie Chad Diehl had been cut...I'd be into looking at him.

where do you get this? no he wasen't and he had to lose like 30-35 lbs. before they would re-sign him and he got fatter as the year went on. again.

and whoever said they promised max anything last year as some poster mentioned?

max is not signed nor should he be.

adams has better tools to work with then max will ever have.

as for colon, he will get his chance at G, but foster may have something to say about that. they didn't give him the starting job yet, just a move in position. same as max did colon lost the starting RT position to a better fit. we signed him to quick and to too much and now we have to try and find a spot for him.

yes i do agree with the poster saying they don't want two rookies sandwiched together on one side. i mentioned that awhile back. especially on the blind side with the way ben holds the ball. that could be bad. the rooks have never played with a qb quite like ben yet. it will take some getting used to.

Like I said in my post he WAS overweight when he had his injury and yes he had to work his way back into shape. And then they signed him...I'm not disputing that. But he was in some of the best shape he's been in for years...and it was said numerous times in reports on TV and even on various MBs about how much better Max looked (weight wise) than the previous seasons. And unless you weight Max each week and such you cant say he got fatter...I do not remember seeing his gut/etc expand much at all during the year to where he was much bigger than when he started. If i remember correctly you've almost always been a Max hater or whatever...and a lot of people who hate certain things/people/etc see what they want to see and not whats real. But thats all I'm going to say I'm not going to waste time arguing with you or anyone.

Anyways back to Colon at LG...

no, you must not remember right. i've always liked max, but his time has run it's course. he's not that good at LT. i wanted max as the backup swing tackle for a long time, but that was quite a few years ago now. it's time to move on, we want less sacks on ben and so does the owner. max has been part of the most sacks in history on a qb. it has to stop.

they actually will have a nice set up if colon takes to the position. he's never had to move far across the line after the snap. it's not a gimme that he can work at this position yet. i think gilbert will get reps at LT and be the swing tackle if adams goes down. colon would then move to RT and foster or legursky or essex or beachum would then come in at guard. no need for another swing tackle backup with willie here and the depth we have. if gilbert then got dinged up, we could the use essex as the 3rd string LT.
