Everytime I hear Kevin Colbert talking about the draft, it makes me very happy that he is IN CHARGE of our drafts.

YEP... and, while this link may belong more in the "draft room", subforum, I just don`t know enough about the prospects, to participate intelligently, in that conversation.
I kinda like Poe, but if his rep of taking plays off, is accurate, I don`t want him.
This article brought up a name I haven`t heard, pimped on this board, (Coples), so, I wondered if that was just an oversight on the part of our fans, or if there was a reason I hadn`t heard of him before reading this...
    http://www.steelers.com/news/article-1/ ... 981a7046f4
It mentioned "warts" that every team found on him, (Maybe giving less than 100% every play, like Poe?), but I don`t know what they are.
Personally, I like Mercilus, because he graduated from the same high school I went to, and I watched him damn near single-handedly destroy the Buckeyes, when we played them last year.
Our qb couldn`t hardly hand the ball off, without him already in the backfield, and had pretty much ZERO chance to throw the ball...
I dunno if he would be our BEST pick in the draft, or the biggest need, because I`d really like to find a good O-lineman, but I have a strong feeling, that whoever gets Mercilus, is gonna be happy with their pick...

Bleed, I think Coples hasn't been discussed much on this board becasue many feel that he'll go top-20 and is a better fit as a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 rush OLB.

Some interesting stuff in there. I'm disappointed that they feel there aren't alot of immediate impact players, I guess we shouldn't expect any help this year from the draft. I would also suspect that to mean that we aren't going OL in round 1. Coupled with the fact that Tomlin said that they will address the OL "at some point" in the draft and the comments about free agency. I don't think we will be addressing it until rd 3. I am also surprised and pleased that they are interested in a FB, glad to see they are looking to scrap that BA experiment.

As always, we will draft BPA, a philosophy I tend to agree with, I'm just really craving a good OL again and hope we pick up one stud at least. I just don't get the impression they will after reading this.

Sadly, that doesn't mean squat, because it all depends on what you call a fullback. I think of a fullback as an expert in lead blocking. Anything he does after that is a bonus. This team considers Carey Davis and David Johnson to be fullbacks. Davis was a not-good-enough running back they forced into the role and he couldn't block (did I mention he also wasn't good enough at running?) and Johnson is a blocking tight end that can't catch and can't lead block. They could go looking for another one of either of those kinds, or they could go looking for the kind that is actually talented in the running/receiving way, and also sucks at blocking. I don't want that either, but at least then we might get something. Since Tomlin got here we've got less than nothing from the position.

Or maybe they'll look for someone who can block. I just put Diehl in my mock, in which they have seen the light. Of course, that's what makes it a mock.

Jim - There's this really handy gadget on most videos called the "pause button". It looks something like this: II
Next time the pizza guy shows up ( or your wife starts yelling at you) you should try it out. Works for me every time.

Nice job working Mike Wallace into this thread Jim! Now if we could just get Wallace worked into every thread on the MB,we are in business!

I think they said they won't rule out a fullback, but also Tomlin said not many exist so it is pretty hard to even find one.

Well considering one was right under their nose at the University of Pittsburgh who now plays for the Giants I say BS.

Nice part by Colbert about the type of WR'S we have and eluding to the fact we could use a big target....With the Sweed pick not working out I think we take another stab at a Big WR this draft...That plus I think Haley likes a Big guy for some of his packages.....I still have a feeling we go OL in round #1 then WR in round #2.....Followed by NT,ILB,FS in any order just BPA....

Mayok has my guy with a solid round #3 grade ,but thinks he goes in late #2,some have him going early round #2,,,we will see ,but if we get a OL in round #1 then I think WR would be a good pick in round #2.....

This time next year we could have 1 WR under contract.....As stated I think we go Big this year...I hope so ...

yours was oozing out sarcasm :hehehe:

He's some over rated receiver who got shut down in the 2nd half, now that teams know about the guy, he's going to get blanketed, and he's too weak to fight for the ball so it won't take much to shut him down. Since Ben loves to throw into double and triple coverage, he'll still get his passes.

You forgot the part about him being a diva who thinks he deserves Fitz type money.

Tomlin is always direct and firm with his comments on anything. One of things I took from hearing him in this pressor was the two times they were asked about Mike Wallace. Both times it appeared to me that Tomlin was "extremely" firm and direct regarding that issue almost like, "don't worry about it, WE know what we are doing with that situation and Wallace". Anyone else interpret that at all?

What I got from the presser is thankfully we have KC steering the draft ship.

:this!: All the complaining we do... He can only evaluate OL and CB at 50%, he can't get either position right after the 2nd round, blah blah... that may be true, but who would you trade him for? Check out other teams' draft histories -- most of them are about as good in the 1st round as Colbert is in the 3rd -- and you'll run screaming back to Colbert.

Our fan base is so spoiled by first round picks that we complain about Lawrence Timmons and Rashard Mendenhall!!! People actually say stuff like, "Hey, a first rounder isn't supposed to just be good, he's supposed to be an elite playmaker." Uhh... so there are supposed to be 32 new elite playmakers every year? If our worst picks are solid starters and our best are among the greatest to ever play their position (Troy for sure, Ben if you broaden it enough, Pouncey has that potential), I will be plenty satisfied.

I certainly got the sense that Wallace was not up for discussion.

Not sure about him not being up for discussion, but certainly got the feeling that they want us to know that it's being taken care of and not to rely on random media hype. ;)

I am shocked that MT mentioned North Dakota State. I wasn't aware that NDSU was even on the radar of some of the Pro teams.
