We’d get two firsts if he plays this year, but a first and a third if he stays away.

I was referring to the draft pick compensation calculus. We’d lose Bell, but we’d gain Peterson and whomever else they sign. All those salaries and whatnot get pushed through some magic and impenetrable formula.

Yeah the comps are weird... we would get (max) a 3rd rounder if no other FA stuff happened (actually i thought i read it was only related to FA... would Peterson count in that calculation).

I heard some morning show talking about the Indy FO when Peyton was there. Basically they were giving that FO grief because they only won one Super Bowl with Manning there. Then they started talking about the FO in GB and how they've only won one with Rogers. The basic criticism was why doesn't the FO try to maximize the position they are in (having a good/great franchise QB) by doing whatever necessary. This was more critical of GB since Peyton/Colts had some very good talent while he was there on both sides of the ball.

Thought it fit right in here with what we are discussing. Does Colbert try to upgrade the D while Ben is still here? I hope he does...

Oh yea, they also said in GB's case when you have a HC who is not a difference maker (innovation, scheme sound etc) then the FO really has to step up to bridge that gap.

Green bay has wasted their time with a franchise QB as well... Similarities between the 3 teams for sure. Over reliant on the O (however I don't think they've given AR much to work with and snake bit with injuries to what they do have) a couple pieces on the D and 3 HC's that should've been able to do a little more than what they did/have done.

Makes me wonder if the owners, in general, are taking a more conservative long view of the "product". How much more money do they make if the team wins the Lombardi versus over the longer haul if they don't say give up picks to keep the team feeling (to the fans) more competitive. I dunno if it does or if they think that way.

But yeah... i hope he does too. They won't make more money from me since I live out of the area but the local bar sure might if I'm not too ashamed to watch my team in public :)

Huh. I guess it depends on the owners' views. If they've got a sports team as a hobby, then winning is everything and it's Lombardis or bust. If they're running it like a business, then long-term revenue and viability would be the goal. Which would suck for their fans. (But hey! Never a losing season! :butcher:)

I don't question the Rooneys. They spend almost the full cap every year trying to win. They like to go into the season with enough cap to make moves if there's injuries and we got a lot this year because of Bell no showing. I'm not sure what the issue is.

Daily plead. If he's traded to any team but the Steelers. I'm done with this season. They aren't trying to win now.
