it's well known and by his own admission that he had very little to do with picking ben that year , but hey if he wants to take credit for it now, so be it. yes he and cowher built a winner and he also was in charge since we have taken the step backwards too. it's a two way street. I've also had to watch said qb get pummeled for years while he puts band-aids on the problem. if he's proud of 40+ sacks a year on a franchise qb , who am I to say any different. cowher was great too, he went to two SB's and it only took him 14 years to win it. that might not be bad in another city, but after chaz it doesn't fly well around here. you can put him on a pedestal all day, but I've seen us decline without new blood to take over and that's not something I have grown used to in my 54 years of steeler football standards.

Colbert hasn't taken credit for anything, it's others giving him praise and credit.

Anyway, just a little fun ribbing, no offense intended

We can all agree/disagree with Colbert, but the fact is, his resume speaks for itself. One of the best in the NFL.

But his picks are not as good as they used to be. He picked Troy, Ben, Heath as consecutive 1st round picks - amazing. Can't say that about his 1st round picks since.

We're lucky to have a GM at the helm that's been involved with this team for over a decade.

I think his adjustment to a new coach/approach has been the biggest challenge and that's understandable. Through it all, ups and downs, this guy is steady and knows the overall picture.

For me, Colbert is another one that I would like to be a lifer. He is an integral part of the machine and you know it.
    IMO

Like I said, I don't even agree with everything he has done. In fact, I think he has made some really bad decisions. That being said, he has been at the helm of 2 SB winners and another appearance. Few GMs in the league have the resume he does.

When you garner such high esteem by people of that prestige as in this article, you're doing something right.

Exactly. Name 3 other GM's who have been as successful as Colbert in the modern era. I could make it harder and say 'and are still with that team', but I won't.

Colbert fell into one of the best grounded teams he could have landed with. that has a lot to do with his success, make no mistake about that.

I still think the power struggle between donahoe and cowher led to Colbert falling in with a guy that could draft and evaluate players, pretty well. not to mention the knowledge of the owners. as I've always said, he and cowher are a lot better talent evaluators than Colbert and tomlin. the only position being qb for cowher and it was more of him undervaluing them as important. he was a defensive run the ball coach. he did very well in picking those positions for the most part. he could build a defense.

since Colbert has been without cowher, it's just never been as good. is that because of cowhers input to make him look better than he was or the lack of tomlin to take that over and Colbert more in charge. the visions just don't seem as clear with these two. we will see though. the rebuild has begun.
