Colbert was drafting a QB come hell or high water. It was dumb but on brand for the Steelers to let him do it.

Pickett was a scouting failure of the first magnitude. I could see that he wasn’t an NFL caliber QB. And I’m an idiot.

Hiw the Steelers missed it is the story I’d love to know. I gotta figure someone with the word “scout” in their job description said KP sucks. How and why that voice got drowned out would be the tale to report.

Being from Pittsburgh and somewhat of a Pitt fan I certainly hold no bias. (Contrary to the lies of the dyslexic dimwit)

So I thought about this more just to be fair and objective as always.

At the rate KP is going he might play for every team in the NFL.

    Now that is competitive.

I wish Pitt/PSU played every year but Pitt blew that opportunity and have suffered for it ever since. Somewhat recently PSU made a generous offer of 2 games to 1. Pitt should accept this like other teams of their status. They are not a major program that has any negotiating room. They are kind of like Akron or Youngstown. I see poorly thought denials coming. Facts are challenging.

Marino would throw AT LEAST TWO INTERCEPTIONS in every big game he played in.

Marino choked in big games: stats don't lie:
'83 playoff team vs Seattle 2 Ints 77.6 QBR
'84 SB vs SF 2 ints 66.9 QBR
'85 vs NE at home 2 ints 54.9 QBR
    '90 vs Buffalo 2 ints 72.1 QBR
'92 vs Buffalo at home 2 ints 56.5 QBR
    1995 vs Buffalo 3 ints 63.4 QBR
    1997 vs NE 2 ints 29.3 QBR!
    1998 vs Denv 2 ints 65.5 QBR
    1999 vs Jax 2 ints 34.6 QBR!

Two-interception Marino was a big game choking turnover machine!

In the regular season, he was good enough to beat the '85 Bears. However, in the post-season, he couldn't beat the '85 Patriots - at home - in Miami - and was badly outplayed by the "great" Tony Eason. No defense? He was drafted by a team that was just in the Super Bowl. Do you think David Woodley's passing got them there or was it the Killer B's defense? David Woodley led the Dolphins to as many Super Bowls as Dan Marino in FAR FEWER SEASONS.

Marino even choked at Pitt when he had what Bobby Bowden called the greatest college football team he ever saw. So it wasn't he had no defense, he had no running backs, he had no OL. He had it all at times and still choked but nobody blames Teflon Dan.

Pickett has had the opportunity now with how many other franchises???? And he's still a career backup at best. Spare me the excuses as to why he didn't succeed here.

Nothing wrong with trying to find a QB in your last draft at 20. Its not like we have hit on a ton of first rounders these last few years. Isn’t Watt the only 5th year option in the last 6 or 7 years?

Probably should’ve drafted Willis since Tomlin was “in love” with him in a later round but I doubt he would’ve had patience with him as well.

The desperation to win a playoff game led to some decisions.

How many of those interceptions was because he had to play catch up because they were behind by a lot in the second half because of the poor dolphins defense?

The other 4 QBs in this list was in a era where the rules was very favorable for the offense

Marino pick closely mirrored the Aaron Rodgers pick than anything else. Steelers picking Ben Roethlisberger was the make up for passing on Dan Marino, so the Steelers covered that somewhat.

The Dan Marino pick had more to do with attitude and off the field rumors. Rodgers had an arrogance about him that kept teams away the same way.

The Dan Marino miss was the greatest mistake in Steelers history. Without a doubt. Chuck Noll might have won a couple more titles before he retired and Bill Cowher would have definitely started winning titles before he did. Too bad it didn't happen.

There are many varieties of variables in an interception play of football.

The only one we've drafted. We also gave Minkah the option.

The rules changed to make the 5th year option guaranteed money (after year 3, so 2 years out). I think it also significantly increased how much they get for the 5th year option.

My guess is that rates of accepting options is down league wide.

But Colbert certainly drafted poorly in the 1st after Watt.

Hopefully new-Troy is good enough to get the option. Would be nice to end our horrible run of 1st round picks.

Insane how they do in all honestly.

If he is such a competitor, Pickett would have welcomed the challenge. He didn't and it backfired on him completely.

One can’t help but think if he didn’t run and had some balls where he would be today

But he killed any chance of starting anywhere unless injury

He played the off season just like he played in games, i.e. left the pocket even when there was no pressure.
