The point is those teams didn't have a great franchise QB, they still won a Super Bowl.

"Win now" is the opposite of rebuilding. You are saying the team is rebuilding while trading draft picks for veterans which makes zero sense. Zero sense. Zero.

Rebuilding in any sport is the process of replacing your veteran core with prospects. Comprende?

Cowher lost many great defensive players over the years and replaced them. That's football. He also lost offensive players like Eric Green, Yancey Thigpen etc.

Did you think Tomlin would be able to coach 9 years without turnover? Cowher had 5 different QBs that I can think of but Tomlin is the one who has had to deal with turnover hahaha.

Players who were playing up until last year that Tomlin didn't have to replace: Troy, Ike, Harrison, Miller, Ben, Keisel. Not bad if you have 5 Probowlers to start with your first 8 years and Ike who should have gone.

So Tomlin has JUST NOW had to rebuild which gives him an excuse for losses but... Not having built ANY of the 08 team apart from the trash OL gets him full credit for a Super bowl win and Cowher played no part in it. That is what you are saying so cut the "strawman" crap.

Not to mention Tomlin brought in a horrible OL coach who alienated Faneca. And Colon went to NY.

Those are some asinine conclusions you jumped to there. By the way Faneca left for more money as a free agent and COlon was cut due to repeated season ending injuries.

Faneca hated the OL coach and wasn't offered a contract during his final season. Faneca wanted Grimm to be the HC. Faneca wasn't offered a contract in his final year and then asked to be traded.

For you to say Faneca left for more money when he wasn't offered any money prior to his final aeason the way Troy, Ben, Heath etc. have been and is the Steelers m.o. further shows you are talking out the other side of your mouth.

Colon was released because of injuries... then why is Pouncey here when he has been healthy 2/6 seasons? Tomlin has shown strong favoritism towards "his guys." That plays a part in every starting spot.

You'll have to ask the Rooney's or Colbert why he wasn't offered more money. However, it's crystal freaking clear that it was over money and didn't have jack to do with an OL coach he had never played for.

Don't take my word for it. Here it is straight from the horses mouth. This is before his training camp of his final season. He may have wanted Grimm to be HC, but that's significantly different than him leaving because of a OL coach he had never played for. You don't have clue waht Faneca thought about Zierlien. IT's just more made up crap from you.

"There is no progress," Faneca said of contract talks. "They've been crystal clear in the fact they're not going to sign me this year, and that's it." "No, I don't want to be here," Faneca said flatly. "It's a matter of them being able to do what they can monetarily and come after me. That's the only reason I'm here, on that chance that they would."
"I've been asking since February to trade me, to let me go," Faneca said. "I've done my piece, I've done my time, I've done everything I can for this organization.

"I lived and breathed Steelers football for nine years and gave them everything I had, helped them win a Super Bowl. In my mind, I've earned the right to be treated fairly. To make me go out there this year, play football with no security ... for what I've done for this organization, in my mind is not right."

That should put your stupid Faneca left because he hated the OL coach argument to bed once and for all.

As for Colon and Pouncey. For one Pouncey's injuries haven't been self inflicted. In case you forgot Decastro took out his knee once. The other Dix broke his leg trying to make a tackle. POuncey is also younger and a better player than Colon. For the love of god quit trying to pretend you know how someone you've never met thinks.

Just for the record. Pouncey has started 16 games, 15 games, 14 games,1 game, 16 games
Obviously not ideal since he's missed almost two whole seasons due to injury, but there's not much you can do about someone diving at your legs.

    Strummer,

Faneca was a 7 time All Pro with the Steelers, a member of the 2000s NFL team, and the best guard to ever play for the Steelers making their 75th Anniversary team.

Of course Faneca felt slighted when the Steelers didn't offer him a contract (every top player gets offered a contract early almost without exception) during the season. The Steelers were telling him he was expendable (when he or Hutchinson was the best guard in the NFL). According to Faneca, what the Steelers offered wasn't top 10 guard money.

Money is respect to these athletes.

Strummer, in the same article you are quoting you failed to mention that Faneca TWICE expressed he was displeased that Grimm was passed over for HC. Just keep picking out the bits that support your bias.

You don't think that's part of it huh? A veteran leader expressing to the media he doesn't like the Steelers' choice for HC meant nothing hmm?

If the Steelers had prioritized keeping Faneca he would have remained a Steeler- Faneca would never have made it to
    Free Agency.

Name one Steeler that was allowed to try Free Agency and then was retained by the Steelers in a bidding war. You can't. If the Steelers want a player they don't make it to FA. That is the point.

Fun fact: the OL Tomlin, Colbert and Zierlein put together for the 08 Super bowl got called for penalties on five seperate drives in that game. That has to be a record.

You accuse me of bias when I clearly state in my previous post that Faneca was pissed that Grimm was passed over as HC. You are really truly full of it. This is what you can't seem to grasp. Just because faneca might have wanted Grimm to be HC doesn't equate to Faneca leaving because he hated the OL coach Tomlin hired. Nor does it mean Faneca hated Tomlin. Faneca states quite clearly it's about security aka money. There's no need to try and read the tea leaves or connect dots that aren't there.
Hooray for minor miracles. Through all of this you're actually right on one account, the Steelers don't get into bidding wars with other teams. They try to sign their own by giving them extensions before the start of their final season. That's what the Steelers did in this case. They tried to extend Faneca, but he wanted upwards of 7 million per year and we were tight against the cap that year.
If you go back and read his agent admits to refusing an offer in February that would have made him the top 10 paid LG in the league. The FO office has to make decisions and try to project whether or not they feel a player has enough left in the tank to justify another contract and how much they can afford.
Here is another hole punched in your argument. Troy Polamalu was up for an extension at the same exact time as Faneca. While Faneca was an outstanding LG Troy P was a once in a lifetime type player. Hmm sign a 30 year old OL to his final contract(jets paid him 8million per for 5 yrs of which he played 2) or extend a HOF Safety in the middle of his career?

Let's not forget if the Colts complete that hail mary in the 1996 AFCCG, the great Bill Cowher record in the AFCCG at home would be 0-5 .
