I'm down on Tomlin as much as any, but I give credit where it's due..... his decision to bring refs to practice appeared to work as we only had 3 penalties

 

I actually said he could finish 9-8 with an average team and finish 9-8 with a good team. If he wins a playoff game with Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, he deserves the accolades. Just like he deserves the criticism of not winning a playoff game in 7 years.

This won't be the popular opinion but he's been exposed since Cowher's personnel started leaving in 2011. And the numbers prove it.

That "non-losing" season streak started in 2004 when Ben was drafted, 3 years before Tomlin got there. That streak is meaningless when we're watching dynasties like KC chase sbs and we're chasing .500 seasons. There is no trophy for a non-losing season.

 

Rarely does anyone want to talk about facts when it comes to Tomlin especially the media.

There's no doubt that Tomlin's floor is very high - but his ceiling is also demonstratively low, and it has been for many years now.

Tbh, I think he's actually at his best when things appear to be at their worst, particularly when it comes to injuries and inspiring depth pieces to punch above their weight and avoiding losing seasons

Beyond that, however, I think he's been a pretty underwhelming coach, at best. After all, no one squanders generational talent quite like Coach.

 

He started 5-2 between 2007-2011 but is 3-8 since. Why does he have two playoff careers?

Although it was reported his injury could be season ending, I think it was by Dulac.

 

Mike Tomlin has not even gone to a sb with a team he constructed let alone win one and I doubt he ever will.

 

All the more reason I hope he isn't out. If he is... man... I feel for him.


That said, David DeCastro lost his Rookie Season. He ended up having a great career. Here is hoping that Fautanu can do the same if true.
