Coach K says Haley likes

The Gap scheme......This is great news IMO....The Gap scheme is simple and more power based it employs a lot of quick traps,counters, and in general is a better fit than zone blocking for Strong OL....It is also best suited for North ans South 1 cut runners which is exactly the strength in Redman's game....

The next part I love about the Gap scheme is the Gap passing game it is blocked the same way as the runs and the TE'S and RB'S come open quickly thus a huge potential to get Miller more involved and to cut down on sacks and negative plays....Also the Gap Counter passes allow you to move the pocket which should get Ben on the edge a little more ,I like the way that stretches the D as well....

Coach K also talks about the ability of Decastro to pull left and how that is unique in the NFL and should add a lot of balance ......

It would be great if we could get a LG that can pull really well. We could pull to either side on any given play. Sure would create problems for the defence.

I think our line play at this point will come down to how ready Adams is to play. As a #2 round pick, he could be ready to play pretty quickly. Maybe you keep J. Scott and Essex as your depth Tackles, and move Colon to the starting G spot finally.

Man I'm lovinf it right now. This is how I see it, the same players but:
LT Gilbert - LG Colon - C Pouncey - RG DeCastreo - RT Gilbert

Why move Gilbert to the left when he play on the right side all of last year, keep him on the righr side, and Adams played on the left side his whole college career so keep him on the keft side.

Now its time for the Steelers to move Colon inside to the guard spot. No sense in having Gilbert who started last year and a highly rated draft pick like Adams sitting on the bench because Colon comes back. At this point, Colon must earn a spot, hopefully at guard. I see Gilbert as being a very dependable and capable starting tackle who could play the left side if necessary. I see Adams as a starting left tackle in the league for a long time. I see DeCastro as an All Pro Guard for the next 10 years. as far as Colon is concerned, the guy hasen't played in almost three years and he is still getting payed. Time out for that BS. Until he proves that he can stay healthy, lets get the young guys involved. If he gets hurt again, its over. Legs and Essex will just have to be serviceable.

 

Whoa....Gilbert is better than I ever imagined if he can pull that off.....it saves a roster space...and saves money :swordsman:

I thought Kugler, brought the zone scheme he "liked" when he came in. Interesting.

 

Hopefully the O LIne stays healthy and the Steelers can afford to PAY THEM year after year.

 

OC overrules line coach.

 

My point was this line was supposed to be a zone blocking scheme with Coach "K" and that was his forte. Now all of a sudden he's excited to be in a gap blocking scheme and it's something he wanted to do? Company line must have been being towed somewhere.

 

I don't think Coach K wanted the Zone system,he wanted more of a man to man type of thing.....The whole blocking scheme was mainly BA'S and because of BA....BA liked Zone type of stuff,for the most part Teams block the type of O scheme the OC wants them to.....Hard to run Gap runs and use zone passes,hard to run Zone runs and use Gap passes.....The upfront blocking is directly related to the passing tree and where the passing windows are expected to be....

The Gap system is really in the middle it employs Zone and man traits...It allows you to design plays that use your big guys to drive block and allows your smaller Quicker guys to pull or get in space on smaller defenders....Like I have said the BA way was a joke he tried to block a play the same way every time no matter what....His only real plan was to throw the ball deep as often as he could and the other plays where called just to keep the D honest/..

I stated on the other board that there is really like 30 or so different ways to block each and every run play ,people thought that was crazy,but if I had a chalk board I would show you.... Haley is the type of OC who really wants his plays to work so he will have at least 3 or 4 ways to block each play going into each game...Here are a few things I think he will use,,,,He will actually use motion to see how the D reacts to it and how that helps or hurts our OL make their blocks,,He will probably use combo blocks at the poa sometimes,or block the guy 1 on 1 ,or leave the gap all together and block the LB'S and trap the DL....

I am sure he might do some more ,but right there is 3 different options from the motion part,either to use to strong,weak or not use at all...
How he blocks the poa single,double, or trap? That's 3 more options.....
So right there is 6 real things that a OC can use to help the running game and of those 6 you can use many different combos you can see the math.....Multiply that # by the # of holes you can run into and then multiply that # by the # of running plays in your playbook and you will have hundreds of different ways to get the running game going..I wont even get into the PA part and how that fits in .....

The BA way 3 plays all blocked and designed exactly the same way no matter the opponent ,the weather,the OL,Who the RB was, this is why his O was easy to read and that is the difference between how he approaches a game and how Haley will approach a game.....

 

Yeah, that's definitely what it felt like. I think that helped contribute to the injuries as well. A lot was falling on each others legs.

 

Couldn't agree more. I really think we're going to see a huge improvement in our offense this season. It's going to be day and night compared to BA. Bill Belichek has referred to Todd Haley as an offensive genius, and although we hate Belichek, there's no denying his abilities and he has a great eye for talent.

Ben calls the new playbook Rosseta Stone,and says he will have to meet with Haley and figure some stuff out...

IMO the reason he thinks it seems complicated is there is actually different ways to run plays by design,now Ben will have to become a student of the game and learn how to call plays that actually attack what the D is trying to do...

I am sure that Haley will practice this stuff,and actually devise a Team specific game plan from week to week..Once Ben talks o Haley and starts to understand how a Offense is actually supposed to work he will start to become the QB he should have been years ago..

Maybe after some Coaching Ben will not answer questions with I don't know that much about the running game,so I am not sure why the play did not work....I blame you know who for this type of thing....I expect my QB to know how the play design is supposed to work and be able to explain why it didn't.....To me that's Football 101...How in the world can a QB call an audible and check into a better play if he doesn't understand how the play was supposed to work in the 1st. place?

I like Ben ,but BA has stunted his growth ,he is a good QB on the edge o being great....I know some will argue look he has won more SB'S than most QB'S....Well my point is how many would he have if he had more knowledge of the game?Again that fault is because of the OC it is his job to teach him the system,not only to know it but to know how and why and when to apply different things within the system....Not Coach him to just wait until the play breaks down and then do your thing,,the last guy we had was proud that he spent most of practice on just that type of thing...

Wake up Ben ,you will actually have real practices now and you will be able to grasp the system and master that system...Haley was the best thing that could have happened for Ben and this O....No more plays so simple and so obvious that my 12 year old Daughter can diagnose them before the snap.....

Of course. I've been dying in anticipation to hear anything about the offence we are going to be running this year. So far there's been very little information out there.

Besides, I don't like Ben the person, but he's the QB of the Steelers, so I pay attention to what he does and says and I want him to be extremely successful.
