Cincinnati's new Punter (Rookie)

Ryan Rehkow just averaged over 64 yards a punt on 4 punts which Might be a New NFL record and he hit 2 punts over 70 yards. Why the Hell, can't this team get this lucky on a punter?

Also, when you talk about out kicking the coverage, you lose me with that because when you make the returner retreat, you're giving your coverage team more time to get down and make a play on him. You just have to get there.

 

Hang time is a major part of the equation. You can boom a line drive 70 yards, but without the hang time it screws your coverage. That is known as out kicking the coverage. It’s not a difficult concept to grasp

 

No it isn't but most were saying that Johnson was "out kicking his coverage" that's not entirely true. His hang times are consistent with what he was doing last year and is why they brought him in. If you bring a guy in to improve your net punt average and for consistency, you don't sit there and tell him to take it off. You retool and get better special teams coverage guys to maintain his average you brought him in for.

No as for the Cincy kid, there will be stadiums where he's going to need to dial that back because, domes and weather issues.

 

Bengals may need him a lot this season, at least I hope they do.

 

Had a kid kick a 59 yard FG here last week in High School. Tough conditions since the field is right next to a seawall and the wind is always gusting.
