First of all I'm a hockey fannatic. I stayed up all night long back in the day and couldn't sleep. They went on with updates back in the early cable days. They ended up rushing the guy to the hospital which was really close and stiching him up. That video doesn't show it but right after it went into total panic chaotic mode getting him off the ice. The towel was full of blood and couldn't absorb the fluid anymore. The end doctors report was that if he was at the other end of the ice, he probably wouldn't have made it.

Scariest sports moment I've ever seen.

He later tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head, although he survived. He also struggled with addiction. The injury to his throat really messed him up, but back then there was really no counseling for the players. The second his stitches were healed, they threw him back out there. He ended up getting help eventually and I haven't heard of any incidents involving him in a very long time. He's lucky the team physician had field medical training through the military, or he probably would have been dead.

So if Oakland wins and we loose, the Cinn is the #2 seed?? But if we sweep Cinn and oakland wins, we are #3 seed.. that don't seem right... is this because of Cinn's record

I remember that, that was sick. It was an army medic that saved his life, reached into his neck and pinched off the blood vessel.

Wow. I didn't know that. Hopefully he is still with us and I will always wish him well. Some things you remember like it happened yesterday and I still can't shake that moment from my brain.

Do you know if after that game they started regulating skates to make them less dangerous or anything? That is unbelievable that guy didn't even die from a self inflicted gun shot wound. He must SERIOUSLY have a purpose to be here or something. Man.

Yea but it's not right the NFL considers a tie, a win ( not offICIALY of course) but it should count as a loss when it come to seeding in the playoffs . IMO

They made the throat guard that you see today because of that injury.

I've said this a million times. Wins and Losses vs common opponent should be the very first tie breaker. We BEAT Carolina. The bungles TIED Carolina. So their "half win" shouldn't count against us because we have a WHOLE win against the team they only have a HALF win against. It infuriates me every time I think about it. It's bullcrap. The league should absolutely change that rule. It is asinine. I do not understand how the league can not see this. It just seems like common sense to me.

but a tie breaker is just that... same amount of wins, losses, and ties. regardless on how you want to count the tied game, the wins and loss columns are not tied.

But when you look at WHO the wins happened against we beat the team they didn't beat.

You could count their tie as a loss and it wouldn't change anything... next game would still be for the division title.... for both teams

Yeah, but for it to be a 'tie-breaker' our records would need to be the same. A tie is better than a loss, and we have one additional loss.....I suppose you could argue they should change the rules so games can't end in a tie, but a better record should ALWAYS win the division regardless of who the wins and losses (and/or ties) came against.....

No, skate blades haven't changed. They have to be sharp to be effective. In fact, this same injury happened to someone else a few years back, a skate cut his carotid artery, although it wasn't quite as severe as the one you just saw. There's been a few others too. One guy had an artery in his leg sliced by a skate blade. It happens every now and then, but thankfully it's rare

    Well, I was right!

This means that the Steelers either play at Indy or host the Chargers, in all likelihood. I'll take either game as a win.

It warms the heart to see another Paty Manning choke. Don't you just love his expressions on the sidelines when things aren't going his way. The dough boy will choke it up come playoff time again, rack it.
