One of the greatest pioneers of American music has died at 90. He was definitely not the best guy, personally speaking, but man from a pure artistry perspective he was a dang giant! I've listened to him all my life and some of my earliest musical memories were listening to the greatest hits of Chuck Berry. One of a kind for sure and definitely one of the most ripped off players ever. I would know. I've ripped him off like crazy myself. Dude was a true poet.

But we all know....Marty McFly taught him everything he knew. ;) My Favorite Berry tune was the Seat Belt Song. RIP Chuck.

Yes but if not for that fateful call from cousin Marvin who knows where our beloved rock and roll would be today...

RIP Chuck ...at least you lived a good long life, unlike most rockers

Hope he's holdin'on to his Ding-a-ling! It never ceases to amaze me that no one talks about the Beach Boys ripping off "Sweet Little Sixteen" to record "Surfin' U.S.A." Or, maybe they had an arrangement?

Surfin USA was the last 45 record I bought before I moved from Pittsburgh to Cali. Not positive, but I'd say it was more of a tribute thing, can't imagine their Father/manager Murray Wilson allowing something that would tarnish their image. But then supposedly George Harrison ripped off the Chiffon's song One Fine Day with My Sweet Lord (still don't buy it though).

Learned of this earlier, sad to hear. Long time great and definite pioneer.

Lived a long life, though. We all have to go sometime.

    RIP Chuck Berry

Hopefully Chuck got paid for his tune and it wasn't the same kind of "tribute" that Suge and Vanilla Ice did to David Bowie and Freddy Mercury!

The Beach Boys loved Chuck. They even covered Rock and Roll Music. John Lennon lost a lawsuit for ripping off Chuck Berry. Chuck is one of the most ripped off players ever. Angus Young and Keith Richards shamelessly and admittedly just straight up steal from him. Angus even does the duck walk and everything.

No Vanilla added a "ding" and therefore it was "not the same". His words.
