If you didn't catch the game, or just want to see Rainey's punt returns again, here you go. I spliced them together for replay.
Even though they were both called back on penalties, you can still see how electric this kid is. Enjoy.

Hmm, the hold on Mundy (2nd return) might have been a good call. I can't tell from this angle. It was at the point of attack. Allen made a clean block, but then held on too long after Rainey was already gone. What a waste that was.

Man...this kid is going to be fun to watch. And did I see him break a tackle or two? Does it matter when you can leave guys looking for their shoes and socks once you have blown past them?

Agreed - he stays on his feet and really drives to make a play on each return. Hopefully he know when to call for a fair catch as well, mind (though that statement makes me feel instantly old... "come on kids, don't try and be too spectacular now, safety first...").

I will also add that while he will be fun to watch, I foresee that this fun will be followed by howls of anguish if the ST unit continues to get called for penalties...

Hopefully he is our Devin Hester. I was in awe of those punt returns, even if they were called back. On that second one it was amazing by the time he reached the 10 yard line the next closest guy to getting him was 10 yards behind.

You can't coach speed, you either got it, or you don't. Rainey has got it.

Yes where were the penalties? I can't believe I am going to say this but we need the regular officials back on the field. :yeehaw:

    Watch them again.

The first one is on #26 at about the 42 yard line. You see the guys shirt stretch out. i don't think the guy would have tackled Rainey, but I can see how the official called that one.

The second one, I just don't see it. Someone catch that one? If it was Mundy, I think the real officials probably would have let that one go.

On the full televised version both penalties were shown more clearly and appeared to be legit to me.

I thought Allen's was rather blatant holding :hmmm: ...However, it was behind the play, and there was zero chance of that guy making the tackle. But it was still holding.

Mundy is blocking the dude and Rainey runs right by them. It's too small, fast, and blurry for me to see if he held him, but if he did then it definitely could be what sprung Rainey.

Hopefully these two non-rookies get their crap together, because this would kill me in a regular season game if we lost.

I guess its preseason for officiating as well but in most cases during regular play and the actual trained nfl referees I see this going by them as a non call. At least the one of them.. Yeah I am a homer and make no apologies lol

From a different angle you can see mundy with a huge handfull of jersey, stretching the numbers on his back up and around his shoulder pads. I'm a bit of a homer myself, but these calls were both legit.

I still dont see it but I guess it matters not. The call was made and we leave with it in hopes and expectations Rainey breaks a few during regular season... :)

The only rub or criticism I have for Rainey is he is awfully tiny. Don't know that he can take the abuse..

Rainey is fast, no question. The thing that sets him apart though is his quickness and ballance. His cuts are unbelievable. Anytime a player has at least one truely exceptional quality, they will be fun to watch. Raineys quickness, Harrison's strength and aggression, Troy's instincts, Ben's toughness, Ike's hands  . I'm excited to see what the kid can do. I was glad to see he learned his lesson on trying to stay up and fight for more yards. When you are his size, you get to the endzone, or get to the ground. Not just to keep him on the field, but to protect the ball as well.

I got to see the game last night, and even though both PRs got called back, they were the highlights of the game for me. Rainey has potential to be amazing for the Steelers.
