Now I know he is a converted defensive end but when i was watching him when Woodley went down he looked bigger than Silverback and almost as big as when Kirkland played. Can anyone confirm this. He looked huge.

official site lists him as 248 however what a person weighs is often deceptive. they can be over 270 but have it spread evenly throughout their bodies. There are guys who have huge upper bodies while only looking average below the waist. IT could just be that his pads looked big on him but for what ever reason I had flashes of Kirkland when I saw him on the field.

I have heard a lot of reports that Carter is on the small side and is not strong enough and that is really what is holding him back at this point. A good dose of off season bulking up under the Steelers trainers/coaches should do him a lot of good.

This what was reported when he was drafted...but I agree that he looked way bigger than that when he was in there. I don't know? He is only 6'-1"....maybe he has a longer wingspan so it seems like he is bigger?

Silverback's not that big, he's just twice as strong as he should be for his size. Kirkland was like 300. 248 sounds right for Carter.

Maybe it's your TV. His lack of size is his disadvantage at the moment. He's on the small side and needs to add weight and strength, both for pass rushing and run support. He's in a similar position as Worilds was last year. Remember that? A college DE, skinny, fast, too weak. Hopefully Carter bulks up like Worilds did and becomes stronger without losing speed.

He does have a very fast get-off (remember him disrupting the Hernandez sweep vs. New England?), and good speed. I believe he had one of the very fastest 10 yard splits at the combine. I like him a lot, but I don't want him spending too much time on defense until he's ready.

Not hard to look bigger than Harrison, who is only 5'10". (Most would agree he may be a little shorter than that)

No way he's as big as Kirkland was. He was listed at 270-275, but like Bettis probably was playing at 295ish. He's one of my favorite LB's ever. I remember him dropping into coverage when he was healthy and making plays.

Kirkland in pass coverage was a thing of beauty. He could run with TEs and running backs. Dare I say the greatest 300 lb. pass defender in NFL history?

I think he was one of the most overlooked pieces on those defenses. When they drafted Woodley, I was really thinking "There's our new Kirkland!". He's not as big, but gives us a pretty big LB in the 3-4.
