If he keeps this up, he has to be a strong contender for this award. I think the last kicker to come close to winning MVP was George Blanda in 1970.

Somehow PFF graded him at 83.9. How is that possible? He hits all 6 of his attempts and what, 3 were from over 50? What else is he supposed to do? Make all the tackles on his kickoffs??

It's always funny when I see the penny pinchers on the board list the guys they want to drop to save money. It's usually the long snapper, the place kicker, and the punter. Those three are almost always followed by any player having recently signed a monster extension and wears the number 56.

You are absolutely right. Pay that man his money.

I would imagine if we had a middle of the road FG kicker we'd have a lot more loses. So many of his kicks are crunch time.

Not sure when Kickers decline. BOZ will be 34 the 2025 season. Half the Kickers in NFL are over 30. We all know about Blanda but there have been others who kicked into late 30's.

Best I can tell that leg ain't slowing down anytime soon.

Funny thing is ....He just scored more points than the leading candidate for the MVP in this game, and more points than the leading offense. LoL

Im not going to look it up, but wasn't that the year he started at QB a number of games when Lamonica went down, lead comebacks in a couple and kicked game winners as well? And this at 42 or 44? I remember the kick against the Chiefs.

He struggled mightily in 2022. the comments were in context - which i know in this 1984 George Orwell Sound Bite PFF culture, it is hard to keep straight - but the comments were in the vain of "if - IF - IF - he continues to decline, then there needs to be a plan to find another kicker"

His kickoffs were landing short and his % of making FG's over 40 yards was falling. He was 20 of 28 that year in total. He stunk.

    He recovered in '23.

Get a clue, some of you.

He also struggled mightily in 2018. He rebounded after that season.

He is / was getting older and costing a good bit of money, by 2023.

    #context-matters (to some people)

He is the Wizard of Boz right now, MVP candidate

The context of job performance is important and the season he signed the extension was a statistically bad year for Boz. I don't think he was done any favors by the coaching staff that season either because if memory serves(usually doesnt) Tomlin opted for some field goal attempts that were at the extreme edge of Boz's range.

The reason I framed my response that way is because when the saving cap space is brought up rarely is job performance the context they use and more often it's a false premise such as long snappers are a dime a dozen, punters can be found under every rock and they can get any kicker to do what Boz does. To my way of thinking you pay Boz until he is consistently missing over the course of several weeks.

I think he edges out Tucker this year for probowl and special teams honors especially with Butker out for the season and it's about time too.

Can't blame Tomlin on that year. Boz was 5-10 from 40-49 yards and 7-9 from 50+.

Yep once you hit 50 that memory just starts to go downhill. Could have sworn they tried more near 60 yarders that year that previous ones.

Memory gets bad as I get older, lol, but after that less that stellar year in 18 did he not take a pay cut? he came back and was given a good contract. had another year, but as I recall was injured and actually most of the longer kicks were accurate but the mid-range were the ones he missed. In the history of the game kickers at times get the 'yips' and given time figure it out.

And as I said then.....everytime he has signed a new contract his numbers fell off, but not enough to get rid of him....especially when we have seen him bounce back the following year everytime.
