    Likewise.

Claypool and Martavis Bryant we’re both immense talents who just didn’t make the step they needed in terms of maturity.

Hey if you actually want to know what Chase Claypool is doing this week he is working out with Justin Fields getting ready to return to Pittsburgh???

Reunion Workout for Justin Fields and Former Bears Teammates (msn.com)

I for one would love to see the Steelers give Claypool a training camp invite. His physical limits were always off the chart when he was drafted my Pittsburgh. It was funny when they were dueling all over Kyle Pitts, I kept point at Claypool's size and speed asking what the difference was between Pitts and Claypool?

Not everyone wants to work hard. Maybe its hard for a team to tell who will be a hard worker and who wont. A guy can BS his way in interviews to get that first rookie contract

Some guys once they get that 1st contract they feel they have done what they set out to do....make enough to live the rest of their days comfortably if they aren't stupid. Can't tell what's in a man's heart, and mind.... As of right now someone like Claypool has made over 8 million dollars....while in the NFL that's not much, but in the real world.....if I just turned around and gave You 8 million.....You could live very nicely for the rest of Your life....as long as You're not stupid. This is why Tomlin, and the Steelers try drafting players that love to play..., but like you said....they can be tricked.

I disagree with that take a bit. I don't think a player has to be good AND play for the steelers for 8+ years to be a good pick. Washington, Coates, Sweed and Claypool were all pretty big misses... but we've done really well compared to the rest of the league. Drafting AB, Sanders, Wallace, JuJu, DJ, Holmes, Bryant, etc. were all varying levels of great success. Pickens obviously is still too early in his career to put in either column. There are always going to be misses no matter what... but we've done really well by comparison at the position.

I have a relatively good connection that I trust that has insight on the Claypool situation. I won't disclose the nature of that connection out of privacy for the individual involved.... However, my sources are telling me that Chase cared WAY more about getting into bed with Instagram models than he did becoming a great football player. Not overly shocking that he found his way out of the NFL. NOBODY has the raw talent to make it in the NFL without the heart and work ethic required to succeed.

Hard work beats raw talent when that talent refuses to work hard. Every damn time.

how much have you compared us to the rest of the league?

again, this is more narrative than truth, is my opinion, as stated elsewhere (with lots of names mentioned to back it up)

We used a lot of early picks on WR's when we should have been building in the trenches. other teams had different philosophies.

Your last statement is definitely true to an extent. Sure, there are other teams that also draft the position well... but we've done really well with the position outside of the first round or two. I looked at a power ranking of the top WR's in the league for next year and only 4 of the top list are from 3rd round or later (Diggs, Hill, Nacua, St. Brown). The rest of that list is guys from the top 50 or so picks. The fact that we were able to find really quality players in AB, Sanders, Wallace, DJ, Bryant, Ward, etc. from those later rounds is definitely a plus for our organization.

Couple all this with the fact that WR bust rate in the first round is high (only RB, QB, DL are higher), the Pro Bowl rate is the lowest of all positions (30%) and All Pro rate is only better than QB's and TE's (15%). It is certainly a super volatile position to draft and we have done a relatively good job hitting more often than the average.

Great talent but when I saw he could not break the habit of jumping to catch a pass when he didn't have to jump, I thought he was going to be in trouble as a pass catcher.

what I don't understand is how do scouts not see this, in watching game film of a 2 year college career? Now - I don't know. I did not see one iota of his college film. Did he dominate or did he do the same thing - make dumb jumps for balls that she should catch in stride, etc., etc.?

    Scouts get lazy, I think.

it is the natural inclination of people, unfortunately. I say it here frequently and it angers some -I know, but watch the games. don't gimme me numbers, data, stats bull - watch the games. See what the players are doing, see their work ethics, their hearts, their heads, their efforts.

you can't get that from the combine, from measurements, from PFF
