What Changes does this team to make to be a legitimate Contender again? As mush as I would like to see Tomlin go that isn’t going to happen. Assume Tomlin stays. What changes to coaching and personnel need to happen and what can we legitimately do in free agency and the draft this next year?

Better drafting and developing especially in round one could be a good starting point.

    2023 - Jones

    2022 - Pickett - Bust in waiting

    2021 - Harris - Bust

    2020 - no pick

    2019 - D. Bush - gone

    2018 - T Edmunds - gone

    2017 - TJ Watt

    2016 - A. Burns - gone

Need better competition at QB either through the draft or FA, QB1 shouldn't just be handed to Pickett.... and most (3 out of 5) of the O-line needs to be upgraded. Keep Herbig and Jones. Keep Semeolu and Daniels for depth. Moore, Okorafor and Cole need to go.

Forget being a contender at this point, just play like you're even interested in competing against the likes of AZ and Pats.

What would help is going outside the organization and hiring an OC with an extensive NFL resume.

Take an Elfing 5 yard penalty instead of burning a timeout in the 2nd half of a close game for starters.

If MT stays do not expect much change. Maybe different players, but what you see that is not working is the model, continue pounding that square peg in the round hole until it works. OK, a bit much, but that seems to be the mindset and it has not worked for a decade.

    1. New OC from outside the organization
    2. New offensive line coach (probably happens automatically with 1. above)
    3. New special teams coach
    4. New Center whether through draft or free agency
    5. Broderick Jones to LT
    6. New RT whether through draft or free agency
    7. Draft more corners (this also keeps STD sane for another season)
    8. Get ILB room healthy
    9. New SS whether through draft or free agency

Just off the top of my head

    Passive Aggressive?
A lot of us always add that "It won't happen" as if someone in the organization will see it and say... "Dang, we gotta do it for this guy."
    I've done it myself...

They busted the myth of firing someone mid-season and before their contract ran out.
They most likely are not going to fire Tomlin or trade him till after season end.
Mr. Rooney is a little more caring that most think, he was behind the firing of Canada, and I also heard he wasn't happy about being sold on him returning this season.
So, Tomlin, despite all his accolades, it most likely on the hot seat, though we will never know until seasons ends somewhere thereabout.
There is justification to keep him, I know that blows some minds but you have to be part of the game to know. It's not apologizing for him by any stretch of the imagination.
There is also justification for letting him go. I happen to think 17 years might be a bit much and 18 is probably too much.
That Pittsburgh office is pretty tight lipped, that's one thing I've learned over many years.

For the record, I'm sort of thinking along the lines that either Mike gets a retooled staff, or he's done.
The Patriots decision to part ways with Bill, the firing of the Chargers coach, the Raiders firing theirs, Washington firing Ron, there are a lot of doorways and a lot of options.

    Coach. An offensive minded one.

Whether the Tomlin goes or not overhaul the staff, definitely a new OC, DC and line coach.

Khan and Weidl make all player decisions both draft and free agency, neuter Tomlin. If he doesn’t like that feel free to leave.

Draft a QB, you won’t get a high pick but second or third is fine, someone to push Pickett, he has no job concerns. Then if he falters maybe you already have the guy on your bench.

Address the WR room. DJ is on his last year of his contract, doubt he gets an extension. Pickens lots of talent but head case. I don’t know if you cut your losses with Pickens and try to get a draft pick or stick with him and see if he straightens out with new coaching/coordinators. I’m inclined to go with the later since he is cheap and can move on from him at the end of the year or even trade deadline if it’s more of the same. In the meantime draft one or free agency or both. I know he is on the wrong side of 30 but Evans is a monster and would provide instant leadership in there.

Warren takes the lead, bulk of the carries to him. Trade Harris because he won’t like being demoted. It’s been proven you can find RBs time and again, can find someone easy enough to back up Warren. Big mistake drafting Harris rd one as many claimed here, just don’t do that with a first rd pick. Maybe if you are a generational talent, Harris ain’t that.

Keep retooling the line. They have some pieces in place, doesn’t need to be an overhaul. Cole gone, good grief.

DB’s DB’s DB’s. Lot of work to do there.

ILB get healthy, I like the room.

Cams replacement has to be high on the list this draft. Love what he has meant to the Steelers, a true Steeler but clocks ticking on him.

TE’s I like, Muth can be very good with the right OC. Year two should be better for Washington.

Have to get Nick Herbig involved more, need to get creative and get him on the field, very good player.

IMO, without a new HC/ leadership, the culture will not change. To change the culture, you have to remove the cause of it is. This is a total team issue and there is only one coach who runs it all. I also blame ownership for their piss poor tolerance of this for so long. JMO>

You’re not wrong but I don’t know if they have it in them to move on from two coaches under contract in the same year.

But they absolutely should. Can hope the trade rumor has some teeth to it.

I hope you're right but that means he's too weak or too dumb to make the necessary changes, neither of which is encouraging. He also sure seems to love him some Mikey T. despite that dude being incapable of winning playoff games. The only thing good in Pittsburgh right now is the GM tandem. If Art had any brains, courage, or desires at all, he'd let those two clean house and hire who they want.

I am a half glass full type of guy But changes need to be made.
QB room needs to be upgraded give KP some meaningful competition
A young offensive minded OC/ play caller very important with HC potential
Capabilities should be brought in along with all new offensive position coaches.
Continue to build OL/DL /secondary thru draft and Fa. I am not a Tomlin supporter
I would hope the Rooney's go with a new coach see above for preference.
There are more intangibles needed ie punter, but if our FO can make trades for
some of the undesrables on on this team, we know who they are. I like our team with these
    needed changes.

About the only change I see is to start Mason, unless Pickett is able to play on Saturday

About 10-15 years to go by.

The Steelers are going to be in the bottom half of the division and bottom third of the league for 10+ years.

See the Browns/Jets/Bills for 20 years.
