if you were Tomlin, what would you change on defense now prior to the next game versus the Eagles?

Ziggy Hood would be on the bench and let Hetward play. McLendon would replace Hampton they need to check the waiver wire and see if there may be a CB or 2 out there. I know they would be new but could they do any worse than Keenan Lewis? The same thing from him every season, bad angles and grabbing the guy to keep from getting beat.

If it's me. Kiesel is coming out and so is Hampton. I'd go with Heyward, McLendon, Hood. I like Kiesel but he has been horrible through 3 games. Not much you can do at linebacker, if Harrison can play go with Harrison, at corner I'd sit Lewis and go with Allen. At saftey if Polamalu isn't better I'd rather see Golden play instead of Mundy.

Doesn't make me feel that much better. Harrison will spend the 1st 3 qtr's knocking the rust off his aged body and Troy... well let's just say it's been a very long time since Troy's made a big difference in a football game, very very long time.

We have two 1st round picks in Defensive ends, but, I think they are better suited for a 4-3 defense and not a 3-4 defense.

If only that were true, but it isnt, the defensive schemes will remain the same, the two old timers on the D line will still be playing at a B level, Hood will still struggle, so with two dinged up players returning that wont change anything, neither one, troy or harrison are the same difference makers they once were:

Is Kiesel injured? What is his deal? He has been a non factor after being dominate last year. I agree with you on Mundy...PLEASE keep him off the field. Also, can we put Cortez at CB instead of Keenan Lewis? Its like having Gay out there all over again..possibly worse.

Troy makes the defense better whether he has a direct impact on the game or not. Robin (Clark) needs Batman (Troy).

I don't believe many changes are necessary. The defense just needs to make 2-3 more stops per game. I believe the current personnel can get that done. They just need to eliminate stupid penalties and mistakes.

So, I believe the changes lean more toward overall discipline of play versus changing players.

Better schemes. We are pretty predictable. Also lets blitz from someplace other than up the middle once in a while. And if we do blitz we should play man defense. Force the receivers to get past us instead of giving them a cushion. There is no benefit to a blitz if you are giving the WR a free release off the line.

Keisel hurt himself against Denver in the playoffs last year ...It was a groin, but it was never stated how severe it actually was....but it was bad enough to not return in the game last year...Keisel has not been very effective so far. Part of it is Harrison is out and Hampton is average too...

I don't know why Mclendon is not playing... all we hear is what a great camp he had. Hampton was not very effective last year. Why not play him?

It just didn't seem Lebeau had an aggressive game plan agains the Raiders. I would rather lose trying to get after it than to just sit back and get picked apart.

I think Heyward at this point should start, I really don't care if it is over Keisel or Hood. He just makes more things happen when he is in there...

Watching the D line as close as I can on the recorded game it seems like Keisel gets doubled and Ziggy gets pushed back and held up to the point of not even being able to slow a back down with a free arm. I know I'm on him a lot but he does nothing, I've head Arron Smiths name called more in 2 games than I hear Hoods name called in 2 seasons. I don't expect hit to replace Smith but I wish he wasn't so easy for o-linemen to push him out of a play, it frees other guys up to double the other linemen. I'm calling him a bust and hopefully they get rid of his sorry playing next year.

Maybe its time to run some 4-3 defense. Tomlin knows how to run it and who would expect it. Oh, but that means DL would have to change the defense up from the same ole thing. Forget I said anything.

I personally would not be opposed to seeing:

Carter, Worilds, Keisel, Woodley and Robinson as DEs. (Keisel out next year, still leaves you 4.)

Hood, McLendon, Hampton, Heyward, and Ta'amu at DTs. (Hampton out next year, still leaves you 4.)

Our problem moving to the 4-3 this year is the LB core. I could see Harrison potentially being a strong side linebacker and I could see Timmons and Spence being great weak side linebackers, but I don't think Sylvester or Foote are good enough against the run to be the MLB.

You ain't going to see no change, DL/Coach T are incapable of making changes as is our front office.
All are afraid to PULL THE TRIGGER.They are married to veterans and the veterans will play. Hampton, Kiesel, Lewis,Mundy. The only thing we can hope for is if Dick Lebeau turns Silverback loose and if Silverback is even
capable of changing games anymore? Men its not working, time to shake things up.

One of the big things would be to get Mundy off the field. He made one play in three games when he shook up Shawn Greene of the Jets on a tackle. Yester day he missed the tackle on McFaddens long TD run, and got a penelty on the Hayward-Bay tackle!
