Who do you get rid of?

Polamalu. His cap hit is ridonculous. Over $10mill. What do you do with a guy who is slowing down AND can't stay healthy that is costing us that much cap space? All emotions aside, what do you do?

James Harrison. Ditto across the board. He is also hitting us for over $10mill next season. Is he worth it?

Mendenhall is most likely gone. I've always found him to be an aloof guy. Not a good locker room guy. Finally, my speculation was confirmed in the final month of the season. We're not going to give him the contract he seeks so . . . buh-bye. But, did you know that Redman AND Dwyer are both restricted free agents? Batch will be our only 'rotation back' under contract for 2013 when the season ends next week. Who do 'ya like?

Leftwich and Batch are BOTH free agents. I think they both suck. Leftwich CLEARLY can't stay healthy. He gets hurt on untouched td runs. And Batch . . . it's time. We need to go out and grab a dependable veteran qb and draft a project. Did you know Ben is on the books for over $20mill next season?

Antonio Brown will be anywhere from a $6-$9mill cap hit over the next five years. Yikes. Hope he delivers next season. He wasn't ANYWHERE near that type of performance this year. Wallace will likely be gone leaving us with Sanders and Cotchery. I'd like to bring Plax back and get him in shape. That, and look for a vet for depth.

Starks, Legurksy, and Foster are all UFA's. We need 'em all back. We need the depth. We keep trying to get rid of Starks, but we need him. Legursky is too versatile. We need him back too.

Big Snack is an UFA. I liked his performance this season. His cap hit in '12 was in the $4-$5mill range. I'd like to see him back for another year. Steve McClendon is a RFA. I'd like to see them re-sign him as well. He's filled in rather well when called upon. Last year more than this year I thought.

We're giving Woodley $11-$13mill per year. I love the guy but . . . damn. That's a lot of scratch for the production we're (not) getting out of him. He and Timmons are both locked up through '16. They're not going anywhere.

Carter, Worilds, Sylvester . . . none of them seem ready to step in and fill anyone's shoes. Can Sean Spence give us anything? Foote is an UFA. Do we try to get him back? Do we make a run at a vet lb and try to find the next Farrior?

Keenan Lewis is an UFA. We need him back.

Mundy and Will Allen are both UFA's. I don't like either one of them but that's all we've got. What's the strategy there?

all those indicated as gone are depended upon guaranteed cap hit (have to pay whether they are here or not) next year, since I'm not positive what their cap hits are.

Troy needs a big time re-negotiation.

Harrison was under paid forever and his td return should have got him super bowl mvp(best play in super bowl history). Give him a year he is mean and nasty.

Mendy means nothing. Running backs and their 3 year avg careers are by nature expendable. Open holes and any decent back that HOLD the ball will get the job done.

    Lefty and Batch- I dunno

Receivers- AB is hungry and is willing to work hard. Wallace is not worth the hassle or money, try to make a deal(if Ben loves him so much let him take a hit to keep him like Tom Brady did to retain talent).

    Oline- I dunno

    Big Snack- gone

    Woodly- re-negotiate or GONE.

Linebackers- let them battle it out and earn their spot and get rid of dead wood.

DB's played well without Troy see who shows up ready to go and go from there.

    How about coaches too.

Strength and Conditioning coach and Special Teams coach should be gone.

I'm not going to get into it, but some of you guys that want to cut these high priced players I'm sure have no idea how the whole salary cap and the dead money the team is on the hook for works. Take Woodley for example, if you cut or trade him you are responsible for his signing bonus and that will be dead money in 2013 that will count for more than his salary would in 2013 not to mention you have to pay his replacement. Woodley is not going anywhere. Troy's not going anywhere either.

Polamalu still has a bit of gas left in the tank. He's also popular and sells tons of jerseys and merchandise. I don't know how his release would affect the cap. I see him staying at least one more season.

Good points Glenn, people keep talking about this in thread and keep missing the solid info that some are putting out there namely they are up against the cap again next season and have some huge contracts on the books that they simply can't cut these guys and move on. At least not in the foreseeable future, not even sure retirement clears their bloated salaries off the books.

The only one I'm going to go out and say is a definite is Mundy. He should have been gone this year. Allen stepped up big time and I kind of like what Victorian did in his little amount of playing time.

if all these guys that are going to hurt our cap hits are kept, you can bet guys like starks and will allen and some others will not be back. they can't afford them in the first place and we could lose a few other guys that we would otherwise have tendered to higher contracts. warren, mclendon, burress, foote, batch, lefty, redman, dwyer, mendy, legursky, foster, starks, mundy, allen, vandyke. if they used 1 mil. each on these guys alone it would cost us 15 mil., which is money we don't have. it would also cost more then 1 mil. each for them.

let's say though, at 1 mil. each added with the 10 mil. over the cap that we are now, that puts us 25 mil. over. i think we will see alot of UDFA's making this team next year and draft picks and guys that would otherwise be PS players on the roster.

we have to pay the piper at some point for the big contracts. re-negotiations just move the dead money to another year, with said player being another year older and in worse playing shape. next year is the year we will have to make the tough decisions as the cap should raise in 2014. we can't just blow that money now by re-negotiating and pushing these cost to later years. it will catch up at some point.
