Gay is as good as he is ever going to be , but he is Starter capable.Cockrell will never be much of anything another Cortez a guy they think can play outside , but he can't.No need to waste time and money on him.Boykins a good slot CB and should have been playing already and we need to keep him .Grant,to slow, no hips ,not good in and out of breaks. Another waste of time and space. Golson just doesn't look good to me either on tape . I see him as a slot CB at best ,might be able to turn into Gay after another 10 years. Not worth the time and money for that ceiling...

You ain't winning a Super Bowl if guys like Blake or McCain start at CB IMO.

I am hoping we pass on him however if the choice comes down to Blake or McCain thats a nobrainer! With this group of FA CB's I think we can find a diamond in the rough. We aren't in the running for the Normans and Smith's but there are some guys who might be in our wheel house, Jenkins, Johnson, Robinson and Powers. No to Mccain and Blake!!!!!!!!!

If the Steelers really want to upgrade the corner position, Blake cannot be part of that equation. Horrible is an understatement. Eye test friends. What has anyone on this forum seen that would justify bringing him back? I don't get it.

Pass Rush is NOT effective on every snap. You need disciplined corners and safeties that can cover so the Pass Rush can get there. Nothing you can do with 3 steps and ball gone. No time for the pass rush to be effective. You need good coverage. Guess that's why the secondary was ranked 30th in a passing league!

Boykin is a cover corner. Hopefully they bring him back! Cockrell was a positive signing. I would like to see what Grant brings to the table, hopefully starting opposite Cockrell. They need a SS. I appreciate Will Allen's contributions and has bailed out the position but it's in need of an upgrade. Golden showed promise but I don't know if he is the answer, although I would like to see him resigned. Golson is a rookie. Lost for the season now it's starting over. Hopefully he can get on the field and contribute.

Resigning Gay would make sense for veteran leadership but a long term contract is out of the question.

I can see them going after Weddle. This would solidify the safety position. Weddle and Mitchell. Not to shabby.

We need to get rid of most of the CB'S on our roster . They just don't have the skills to play the game .I think they want smarter players and is probably why they don't let young DB'S get on the field. I hope they have realized that just because a player knows what to do doesn't mean a thing if he lacks the skills to it .

We need more size and more speed at both outside CB spots . We need more speed and better recognition at the Safety spots .We have a bunch of slot CB'S and not 1 outside CB .This will never work in today's NFL .Just keep the 2 best slot CB'S and cut the rest and start over ...

Your plans sounds really good to me. I have also seen some other options that are equally as good. I will post them at a later time.

Robinson was a UFA last year and well he didn't look like a bank breaker. Many wanted him here.

    Patrick Robinson CB 28 NO SD 1 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $1,250,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000

Here's what he looks like this year

Patrick Robinson CB 28 SD TBD $2,000,000 UFA 0- His contract---

    Contract: 1 yr(s) / $2,000,000 Signing Bonus $1,000,000 Average Salary$2,000,000 Guaranteed:$1,250,000 Free Agent:2016 / UFA

That doesn't seem like a lot of money to me. Of course, I have no clue about that cap crap and pay no attention to it unfortunately. But I do recall many fans lobbying for this player. I have never seem him but I respect their opinions.

Last year fans wanted as a 3rd or 4th option a Jabaal Sheard. I looked his stats up. He was a major contributor to NE getting to the AFCCG. WTF Even if those guys sucked that would have been a major upgrade.

Are these people sleeping or what? What ever happened to that guy that used to be around here Cowher something or other. Addressing and correcting dire situations was a way of life here. Now near total paralysis has set in. Go figure. More to come.

To get a top tier CB or S or anybody takes money. I saw this idea suggested elsewhere and after giving it some thought agreed and made it a done deal.

With all due respect for the great play of Timmons these past years he is let go. That is a bundle of loot. Everyone says the ILB position is one of the deepest on the team, plus Shazier is going to be the premier ILB in the league and Timmons is what, a ten year guy. Anyway the point is simple. Now no excuses, no hiding behind the cap routine, no crying poor, more than enough to sign the BPA UFA. Many like Trumaine Johnson but that is a decision for the expert Steeler org. to make.

Now with the retiring of Heath and the savings of the player the FA replaces there should be enough to even get another near top tier secondary FA and possibly another OLB or DL to compete for a starting job. At the least it would be great depth.

not all of our guys were total garbage. we keep the ones that played well. gay is a FA and we have to sign him just like any other guy out there. if gay hadn't been on this team last year and played like he did for someone else last year, what would his value be to us on the open market?

people think he is a give in already on this team. he's not. he is a FA signing just like anyone else out there would be.

cockrell is a lower tier signing that we talk about. so that's two now.

we have a draft pick here already this year in golson since he has never played here before. that would make 3.

how do they feel about cortez allen? that is a player looming over our head that is and has been eating up dollars for nothing. his dead money will also eat us as a lower tier signing would if he's let go. then we still need a player added. he makes 4 corners or 3 depending on what they do here.

then there is our other draft pick in grant. what will they do with him? move him to safety or keep him at corner? that could make 5 or 4 or 3.

you do want to keep some continuity. these 1 year rentals really break that down every year. when will gay start to fade?

do we drop allen, not sign gay and go and get a higher tier guy for 3-4 years instead? signing gay drops the value of what we would spend on another guy that's out there. i like willie don't get me wrong but these are the facts. cortez is another blow to the next signing. we have seen this before in tying guys up that we shouldn't have. cortez is sitting right there looking at KC. is willie gay the next one we wish we hadn't locked in to?

i hope KC doesn't screw this one up too. is gay that much better than signing boykin or mccain? a few years back gay was expendable because we thought we had better here and now in his 30's he's the best we have or could have?

You make some good points and while not total garbage really nothing to build on either .At some point we need to start getting talent that actually can match up with top WR'S . 1 true #1 CB and a true Safety is a must. If we are going to play below average talent we might as well play the cheapest guys and clear up money for later ...

I was begging them not to sign Cortez he just doesn't have #1 CB skills this has hurt us bad, IMO we missed on the 2 CB'S we picked last year as well neither can be #1 CB'S.. The bottom line to me is we need to clear up some space and some money and at least get some #1 CB talent in the building whether it be by the draft or FA ..
