I have no doubt we will be back at the top of the NFL sooner rather than later, but I have serious doubt this year. Add in all the injuries on top of the uneven level of play and this year I think we as fans will be at coaster park all year long. Several ups and downs. Right now we are at the bottom and hopefully this next week and a half the team starts to climb the hill towards improvement.

This year just seems to be different than years past in which I had faith the team would get it going the right direction. And I am not sure what is missing.

I love this organizationto the core of me, but each and every year these players echo the same ol thing "we got 16 games to play its a long season we will turn it around" depending on a hope and prayer to pull things together or hope that teams fall apart so we can back in as a wild card thats yesteryear "Foote" take a good look at your own Division!!!! yes your Division!!!! Browns and Bengals knocking on the door..... you gotta win your Division if you want to make the post season buddy. It wiil take a miracle the way this team is headed

I agree that I don't see a huge turnaround happening this year, I can't rule it out. This team is only a couple plays away from being 4-1 or 5-0, even though they've played like sh*t.

That being said - I would be even MORE pissed off after a loss like that if the Steelers players WEREN'T saying the things they are. Personally the quotes by Foote - and other Steelers players (see Facebook) tell me one thing - these players CARE about Steeler Nation and know that they are not meeting our expectations. Every Steelers quote I've read on Facebook, and the one quoted at the top makes me realize how blessed we are to have the bond with the players that we have. These guys don't just address the media and allow their quotes to be published. They address the FANS - and what they aren't trying to pump us up as if we were part of the team.

We can yell and screem, cry and whine, ***** and complain all we want about the Steelers not playing the way we expect. They need this. They need that. They did THIS wrong. They did THAT wrong. One thing that Steelers players consistently do RIGHT - is take their responsibility to Steeler Nation seriously. They want to succeed, not just because they want to win for themselves. They want to win for US - and whe they lose - they understand that they are letting us down.

This gives me hope that they can turn it around, because they're playing for the right reasons. They know that losing hurts US more than it hurts them and they genuinely want us to know that we're a part of this. We cannot go out onto the field and play. That's their responsibility and they're not living up to their end of the bargain. Comments like the one above and elsewhere should serve to get us fans behind them even more than we usually are. I, for one, HOPE that they turn it around. I know they CAN turn it around. Will they? Who know - but I have to love this team - just because I feel like I'm a part of them.

That was a different time and team in 2005 sure we had a few injury's here and there, but this team is like the little engine that could every game just when we think we are getting healthy and on the right track to go forward the injuries arise and most often the same players Troy, Pouncey, Woodley, etc, etc and sadly by their own players this team lacks an identity and an outspoken leader you need that in organize sports someone to push the envelope so to speak. This team reminds me of a tricycle with training wheels for lack of a better example to many undisciplined acts leading to penalty by veteran players. This team does not have its leggs under it yet thats what you use training camp for then you hone it into the regular season. I know i sound negative but hey i call it like i see it not going to candy coat it it is what it is. This really started last year with the Ravens blowout and has not recovered since.

I just don't think so. I'm not saying it won't happen, but with the injuries we have and the fact we blew games against the Raiders & Titans, I just can't see how we make the playoffs. That's just my personal opinion. I usually class myself as more on the optimistic side when it comes to being a fan, but I have a real sour taste in my mouth and just by taking a step back and evaluating the rest of the league, I just don't think the Steelers stack up so well right now. Injuries are playing a HUGE part in my analysis.

I'm usually way more optimistic during bad times than I'm feeling right now. This teams feels a bit like the 2006 team to me. Now I don't think we'll have a 2-6 start like we did in 2006, but I do see a long, stressful season where we win just enough to stay alive, but never quite get on a roll. Most of the games will be stressful, and we will probably see more blown 4th quarter leads.

In my opinion, the only thing that can save the season is for us to have both Harrison and Woodley healthy for the rest of the season, and for them to be on top of their game as pass rushers. The coverage downfield is not good, and nobody else on this defense can consistently get to the QB, even when we resort to risky 5 & 6 man blitzes. It's not as much about sacks as it is simply forcing opposing QBs out of their comfort zone. I don't see another way for the defense to stop a decent QB in the 4th quarter. The personnel are simply not there on the back end. When you look at the beck end, the only good pass defender is Ryan Clark. A few weeks ago I would have also mentioned Ike, but he has fallen off a cliff. He's gone from being a quality corner to being a complete and total liability. I'd also love to get Troy back, but IMO he is less critical than having a good, consistent pass rush.

The second most important factor that can help save the season would be for the offensive line to figure out how to run block. I understand that we've had injuries, but with the exception of the 2nd half of the Jets game and part of the Eagles game, we have had zero push up front. They're not even playing at credible backup level - and that includes starters like Colon, Gilbert and Starks - and yes, even Pouncey before the injury.

I will still cheer loudly and stand by my team, but I'm sure that I will be watching every game with more pessimism than optimism.

The only thing about that is that the Steelers have historically lost to bad teams and then inexplicably turned around and beat good teams.

I think it is going to be a long year...hey it happens. I think there is a stat saying Steelers miss the playoffs every three years.

Only way they turn it around is if Troy Woodley and Silverback stay healthy and perform like they are known too, just hasn't really happen this year too much. Not sure if it will happen this year.

Yes we will turn it around. Maybe not to the point of a SuperBowl win, but at least a respectable season. All you hoping for a crappy record so we can get better draft picks need to go root for another team the Steelers don't need you!

This year I think they have too many issues to overcome

    1. Mendy? What is the status?
    2. Pouncy? What is the status?
    3. Troy? Enough said
    4. Back up safety? Enough said
    5.Harrison game shape?
    6. Redman's health
    7. Leadership???
    8. Coaches not willing to change things up, especially on defense
    9. Conditioning?
    10. Road wins???
    11. Penalties??
    12. Offensive linemen mistakes & injuries
    13. Defensive linemen with no pass rush
    14. Other than the Philly game, soft middle Linebacker play
    15. Overall week secondary

Sorry, just not a good team now, it's all on Ben shoulders, he has to constantly play out of his mind in order for us to win!

A good number of these players are the same ones that gave us a 12-4 season and took us to the Superbowl a couple years ago.

I won't comment on anyone's claim to be fan or not. But - as I've said in a previous thread - I simply find it odd to see "playing for draft picks" to figure in a conversation about the Pittsburgh Steelers. This isn't 1970.
