Colin Cowherd was right....Too much money on defense but the biggest problem, this is a bottom 5-10 unit right now

More like bottom 2-3 defense. Couple that with a bottom 5 offense and what do you get? Rooney extending Tomlin for life.

It's only a problem because they suck. If they were good, Steelers would be good with this somewhat functional offense. Well at least when they remember to run the ball with Warren.

When you look at what they are paying on that side of the ball the results are embarrassing. The highest paid D in the league can’t stop anybody and are one of the worst units in football right now.

At some point they are going to have to stop running it back and take a down year to get younger.

In the short term I don’t know who is designing things re Austin / Tomlin but it’s not working and results are so bad that it can’t just be ignored. It’s not hyperbole to say that the Defence is in crisis right now.

Tomlin is untouchable but it wouldn’t be crazy to let Austin go and try to bring a new voice in to help shore things up. They did it with Canada a few years ago, the D that they’re putting out there right now is every bit as bad as the Canada offence from back then

This retooling attempt that Omar and Tomlin have done the past 3 years has been a failure and someone has to lose their job. Since Tomlin won't be the fall guy, the Omar has to go. I've said countless times the past 3 years, on this board, that the defense needs to get younger and to stop relying on nostalgia acts. Well look at this, the defense is pathetic and is unfixable, and those pieces are no longer movable. If we gotten younger, perhaps they'd be worse as a unit, but there'd be room to grow in the long-term. There's at least pieces to build around for a new GM.

Hard to get much worse when youre already in the bottom 2-3 of the league.

Once again the defense is ran by MT. Nothing changes until he leaves.

    Very true.

Moving forward I'd like to get out of the Slay, Highsmith and Muth contracts as early as next week.

Like I said years ago and nobody wanted to hear it but we needed to trade TJ Watt.

40m a year for 2 tackles last night is where it all starts…

I wouldn’t have signed him this offseason to that crazy deal. You could see he was on the decline. Looks like he has now fallen off a cliff.

Not sure he has fallen off a cliff. Teams are scheming him out of the game, getting the ball out quick because the Steelers can’t cover anything in the secondary. That’s the main issue with the defence IMO

Love was getting the ball out in just over 2.5 seconds last night, Flacco was even quicker last week. The pass rush has no chance when a QB can do that efficiently.

I was in the camp of resigning Watt but I was dead wrong. Like most athletes these days they sign that fat contract and then disappear. I’m sure he will still make the probowl this year on name recognition alone. I’m not sure if he could even pull one of the two flags off a QB these days. He didn’t just fade away. He fell off a cliff. Same with Cam and Highsmith.

I mean we can dissect it any way we want. The Steelers have had bad secondary play previous to this season plenty of times. Watt still used to blow up plays on the regular and be a game wrecker. Now I couldn’t even tell if he was dressed or not.

Yes he has been mostly ineffective, I agree. But I honestly believe that if the coverage improves you’d see him back to his old self, or very near it.

He’s earned over 146 million dollars but his net worth is only 35 million dollars according to google. I’d say he and his wife have a huge spending problem. At that rate he will be broke 4 years after his career is up unless he gets a cushy analyst job and a ruler to smack his wife’s fingers when reaching for the credit card.

Definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing year after year. Tomlin always thinks the issue is execution and talent. It has never occurred to him that it could be scheme and philosophy. His arrogance with this has destroyed this franchise.
