    Tom Brady was picked by the Patriots at 199. Will Howard was picked by the Steelers at 185. Ryan Leaf was picked by the Chargers at 2. It’s all a crap shoot. Nobody knows who can become the next great QB. I’m not saying Will Howard is a sure bet but I’m rooting for him to step up and become a solid starter. This idea of having to draft a high pick QB next season seems very premature. I agree they need a QB as Rodgers isn’t getting any younger and Rudolph hasn’t elevated to anything more than a back up but to throw Howard off a cliff without seeing a single snap is idiotic.

    You mean the super bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger before the Tomlin era?

    Since they don't have a franchise QB even if Will Howard impresses, they should still draft another QB.

    Without a doubt. And might be more the higher they climb.

    The Steelers got Pickett at pick #20...

    I'm prepared for the Steelers to give up multiple picks to move up including some picks in 2027 most likely.

    You know nothing about football if you think that low pass attempts=game manager

    In the first half of game in 2004 and 2005 with Cowher,they were in league average in pass attempts and they had a top 3 offense in PPG in the first half those years and when the steelers had a good lead in the second half,it was Cowherball to protect the lead

    Franchise QB’s are very rare especially in today’s NFL. Good luck finding the next one.

    Thats the popular thought but maybe they use all this draft capital to finish building the team and then go and get the final piece, a QB in 2027.

    They can do a lot for the roster with that many picks in the 2026 draft.

    If they only hit on 5 out of 12 picks the team would be greatly improved

    The picks in the 4th and beyond are usually pretty iffy but there are 5 in the first 3 rounds

    If they don’t take a QB in the first next year I wouldn’t take one at all

    Will Levis is out for the season. Needs shoulder surgery. Bet they wish they still had MR on their team.

    It also give them flexibility to go get players they really like. Gives them options, can let the board come to them or go make something happen.

    I posted some thoughts awhile back once all qualifying FAs had finally been signed.

    http://thesteelersfans.com/forums/threads/compensatory-pick-update-and-outlook.34858/#post-1413068

    Assuming that we receive the full allotment of four picks - a 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th - here are the current draft picks and values per Draftek's 2025 trade value chart. This assumes we and Dallas both finish in the same slot as last year, and uses the min/max average for comp pick position:

    1.21: 800 ---- 800 total 1st round value
    2.53: 370 -----370 total 2nd
    3.76: 210
    3.85: 165
    3.97: 108 ---- 483 total 3rd
    4.123: 49
    4.135: 38.5 --- 87.5 total 4th
    5.159: 27.8
    5.174: 21.8 --- 49.2 total 5th
    6.197: 12.2
    6.209: 7.4 ---- 19.6 total 6th
    7.237: 1 ------ 1 total 7th

    Total trade value: 1813.3, or 1.21 + 1013.3

    Now, trade values for early first round picks, and the equivalencies for us should we again land at the 21st overall and look to move up to acquire a QB:

    1.1: 3,000 <---> 1.21 + 2,200
    1.5: 1,700 <---> 1.21 + 900
    1.10: 1,300 <--> 1.21 + 500
    1.15: 1,050 <--> 1.21 + 250

    As you can see, climbing into the top five isn't a reality from there - the Steelers project to have 12 picks, including five in the top 100, and yet the trade value of their entire draft still falls well short of what would be needed for that kind of move.

    Future year picks are typically valued at a half to full round lower than the current year. With that in mind, there's a possible path to the 1.5 - 1.8 range at the cost of their 2025 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (#85), and 2026 1st. A steep price, but likely why Khan and Co. opted to stockpile comp picks - the picks themselves don't carry enough value to significantly push the needle in a trade involving top-of-the-first moves, but do still allow them two picks each in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in order to mine talent.

    Ultimately, though, we won't begin to get a clear picture of what a possible move up the board entails until we see where this team lands, which clubs select ahead of them, and who is actually in play with next year's QB class.

    2026 is still considered to be a good year for QBs, and like I said they won't have the 12 picks in 2027 like they do in 2026.
