Does anyone know if the Steelers still have room under the cap to sign Wallace to a long term contract?

I suppose if you give him a huge guarantee money upfront might help alot?

    thoughts?

Yes I believe so. I could also see some money being freed up depending on who you keep on the 53 man roster and who gets cut. Wallace I believe will eventually get his long term deal. The front office knows he is a valuable piece to the puzzle and are going to get a deal worked out.

They easily have his tender amount as thats already accounted for...and according to some experts if the contract is structured right then yes they have the money to do so. And as Hawkeye said if some people get cut (esp say more veteran or higher paid players) that will free up more.

I'm sure they have options. Here's a thought...if McClendon keeps playing the lights out, it could make a casualty out of Casey Hampton. That would free up some cash.

    Here's some cut money:

    D. Johnson
    John Clay
    (Gone already)

    C. Batch
    J. Scott
    T. Essex
    C. Hampton
(Nobody will sign these guys, if we need them they will be available in the unemployment line)

Then there is a slew of third tier guys too.

I though Scott was gone? I wouldn't mind dropping Essex or maybe even Snack if McLendon keeps doing his thing, though.

I am afraid he is looking for more money than the Steelers are wanting
to pay him. Lets trade him soon, so we can still get something for him before
    he becomes a free agent.

The Steelers (Colbert) made it clear they aren't trading him

I don't think Wallace will be traded. Colbert has said as much that Wallace is a part of the future and they want him a Steeler for a long time. I think the game of chicken will end this week and shortly there after Wallace gets his deal.

I dont see this happening yet. Casey is invaluable in the sense he is the only serviceable backup if McClendon can keep the starting roll. Additionally he is probably coaching McClendon and showing him what he knows.

Letting sushi go and keeping Hrapmann will free up more money as well. Plus don't long term deals, even mega million dollar ones, often lower cap hits if they're structured a certain way? Seems to me big signing bonus and lower annual payouts reduce cap hits; although I could be wrong.

LOL I love this and Oh so true, I think the above poster forgot we drafted another pretty good NT
that is going to need some playing time also. So where do we use Fat ASS? they should have purged
Big snack and Foote last year along with the rest of the purging. Then we could be more in the Mike Wallace sweepstakes, Not now, he has burnt his bridges.

I can't keep straight which Scott is which. I guess I meant C. Scott.

I also forgot that we might save a few bucks on the new kickers should they get signed.
We could also let the long snapper walk and have Harrison double down.

or rusty. He's good insurance just in case, but I still think if they cut him he won't go to a new team and if we needed him in an emergency he'd be home waiting for the call. The dude is already rich with all the accomplishments he'll ever need professionally and knows this system. I don't think he wants to go to some other team somewhere unfamiliar and start all over again. Like you said, he wants donuts and a couch....

I heard on the radio today that apparently next year some extra money will be thrown in the budget from TV revenue or some new source, and speculation is that they are waiting to sign Wallace next year because they will be able to give him the contract he wants with all this extra cash that gets added to the mix next year.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details of this though, if anyone knows more please chime in?
