“his route is nearly all routes on the vertical plane”

    What does this mean

They have him running vertical routes down the field. Not going across the field. It simplifies the routes he is running and they feel that gives him the physical mismatch they covet because he is so much taller than the players covering him which allows him to go over the defender to catch it while the defender may have his back to the ball.

In other words they are playing to his strengths so that he is mostly running deep patterns and there is probably less to identify from a coverage standpoint.

I’m just looking forward to something that sort of resembles a football game on Friday night

    And maybe a cold one

    Bingo.

If Darnell is to be effective early on in his NFL Career, work with his strengths. He is not his teammate in Brock Bowers nor his Draft Classmate in Dalton Kincaid... but he can still become a complete TE in time if developed properly. To do so though, implement him by maximizing what he does best.

Add the little things as he progresses.

Tried telling you he is going to be more than just a mere RedZone piece! Pat Freiermuth is still the guy but adding in the Mount is still an enticing option!

You are correct though in your overall assessment of him; immeasurable potential that will take some time to be fully tapped. Then again, we both agreed about Darnell regarding this. :drinks:

We are in a great spot as we have a solid alternative if one gets hurt. Hope we can keep them together for a while.

Washington could have the fastest 40 time for the TEs. Muth should be able to help him grow his route running.

    Washington 4.64
    Freiermuth 4.68
    Heyward 4.72
Gentry 4.9 at NFL combine, but at his pro day, he said he ran in the low 4.6s and 4.7s

I just watched the Rich Eisen show and Daniel Jeremiah just said that Washington's weight is closer to 290, based on his 20 years of experience.

Cutdown day has changed. You can keep all 90 throughout.

Cutdown day will be Tuesday August 29th getting the roster down to 53.

Players can be traded or cut before the date.

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers are working out former Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Brandon Kipper on Monday.

Kipper was signed by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State. Baltimore waived her on July 27. Kipper was a four-year starter at Oregon State. The Steelers appear to be adding more depth at offense line as the team prepares to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in its first preseason game on Friday.
