Bens injuries have been a result of having plays and the line break down repeatedly and being pounded on numerous times a game. Some designed plays outside the pocket will and should be implemented. We're not going to turn him into a statue in the pocket nor should we.

Pressure on the QB comes from weaknesses in 4 areas, the Oline is only 1 of them. The WRs ability to get open, the plays designed/called to find holes or exploit holes in the D, and the QBs ability to progress through his read when option #1 is taken away, followed by #2, etc. I think the Oline will be much better and will alleviate much of those issues. If Wallace comes back, and I think he will, that will put us still good there. Haley should help with the play calling. At that point, the pressure will be about Ben. Know where you want to go with the ball and you will be much better off.

The only way I want to see Ben being rolled out is if he learns to throw the ball away when he has nobody open. Until he learns that, I want him behind the 300 lb guys so he doesn't get killed. Haley needs to force Ben to throw it away at times. Him getting blown up and injured isn't worth the odd time that he makes some miraculous play that shouldn't have been possible. That one play isn't worth his health. Throw the ball away!

I've read reports that our TE's were getting their buts whipped in blocking drills. That's pretty disheartening. I hope Heath stays healthy all year.

there should be plenty of talent around for him to dump the ball and still make plays. why roll him out of a completely safe pocket just for ben to make some big schoolyard play? that's forcing it not letting ben do what he does. in the pocket ben will be safer and i don't forsee to many jailbreaks coming his way when he's in said pocket. that is keeping ben out of harms way. if he has to he will move his feet, but not til then. his job is to put the ball in the playmakers hands. that moves the ball and keeps him walking good, which keeps him passing good.

When you can roll out and thrown on the run (along with having great pocket presence/awareness), it forces the defense to adjust. These adjustments are where big plays can happen if you catch the D out of position or biting on the pump fakes.

I agree that Ben has to be smarter but he needs to continue with what he does best.

most have been beaten by woodley, which isn't surprising  ............ there isn't a back or te capable of blocking him :superman: .......... a contrary report i've seen though, is the fact that wesley saunders has been the best blocker in the absence of heath miller.

all in all though, i'm pretty excited. i don't remember a camp this physical, or heard of this much intensity. everybody has had their game faces on from day 1, and i'm expecting really big things this season........... (actually, i always expect big things every season from the team) :hehehe:

@ shaner and mac, well I hope they do roll him out because he's deadly when he does that. I don't think there is any arguing that Ben is a tough SOB, with the reduction in hits he should take this season, it will be a walk in the park for him. Lets not start acting like he is made of glass, he can take a hit. You're going to see roll outs, count on it, Haley already said he is not going to take away the strength of Bens game.

here's a pretty good analysis i think. nobody said ben can't improvise when the pocket breaks down. he makes guys miss when he stands in all the time even when they have hold of him. he knows when to run, he feels the pressure, he knows when to move. what did you think we wanted him to do stand there and don't move, heck pure fear would make a guy move. he's good from the pocket and good in the pocket which is also part of his game. i don't see alot of good rolling him out, but have read he was running the option in camp. i think back to the browns game last year and the play that really ended our season last year. ben was out there running around with no help and alot of fast big men wanting to hurt him, and they did. like it or not but ben is aging and at this point, with his injuries and if you want him healthy for more than just this year, he doesn't need to play that game for us to ramp up the scoring. he actually throws more big plays from the pocket and he's improving reading defenses. why beat him up? make him learn to be a complete qb.

ben won't forget how to move when he has to. just like fran tarkington never forgot how to scramble til the end of his career. it's part of them now.
