Cam Sutton. Does he deserve a 2nd chance?

Unless you have some relationship with Sutton that we don't know about, we as fans don't know what is within his character. People didn't know Warren Moon was capable of domestic abuse for most of his career. I don't remember hearing about such issues with Robert Parish when he played. Those are just two of many examples of high-profile athletes. They aren't all Tyreek Hill, who has already made it very clear to the world that he is abusive toward women.

 

James Harrison had anger management issues in high school. He had them in college. He bashed down a door so he could assault the mother of his child while he was a Steeler. They didn't cut him.

Ben Roethlisberger was accused of rape by two women. One of those accusations was debunked. The other was not. They didn't cut him.

Michael Vick tortured and killed dogs for his own amusement and went to prison for it. The Steelers signed him anyway.

If they think Sutton can help them and they can reach an agreement with him, he will be a Steeler again.

It's the first time it's known to have happened. Anything else is speculation.

I'm not defended what he did, but I do believe people deserve 2nd chances. Not 3rds, 4ths, or 5ths though.

He had no conduct issues here so maybe environment had something to do with it

 

Which is pretty much my thoughts. The man is applying for a football job not to take up position as a local pastor.

With that said, if he continues to make poor decisions cut him if he signs. He won't be getting big time money.

I heard in a report that there was “a bad argument” and he left the location where his girlfriend or wife was and shut off his phone. That was why he wasn’t able to be reached or respond to authorities looking for him. (Supposedly)

A lot of possible BS in this drama. Lots of maybes. I’ve had verbal arguments where I need to get away and turning off my phone sounds like a pretty smart idea. Physical violence and escaping is a different situation deserving of much more scrutiny, investigating and possible punishments.

I’d sure like his on field efforts though. But I heard he kinda sucked for the Lions.

 

I don't understand the need to make excuses for the guy. I have no problem if they give him another chance, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking we know what kind of person Sutton is. We don't.

 

I am going to be an unfeeling jerk here and say this..... It is a business, not a rehab facility or a marriage counselor. The Steelers do not need the distraction.

Regardless.. he must have forgotten that Joey Porter Jr has already done so. Point is moot as far as that is concerned.

 

Getting back to Cameron Sutton... more info is needed here. Too little at the moment and too dangerous to make assumptions.


As far as giving him a second chance?! Why the hell not?! Yes the issue is very sensitive and will require more information. Should the team be comfortable in what Sutton has to say, I am all for bringing him back here. Besides, outside of this incident, Cameron Sutton has never been one of suspect character.

 

What is that about Hill?

I'm not making excuses for anyone and this was stated as such in my last post. You can look at a resume to see he had no incidents with the Steelers. This is all objective not subjective to any opinion or speculation. I'd give him a 2nd chance based upon his time here if he wanted one.

 

I have no problem with giving him a second chance. I do have a problem with people assuming he was a model citizen before this incident. We simply don't know.

 

It is worse. That report leaves out the video of him threatening his fiancee that became public. The league refused to do anything, claiming it was because his previous offenses happened when he was in college. According to this article on Rueters, it was about him allegedly punching his child.

The worst of it was this exchange.

She adds, "He is terrified of you."

A voice alleged to be Hill replies, "You need to be terrified of me, too, b---."

There are plenty of bad guys in the NFL. Hill is arguably the worst.

 

I'll take back Cam Sutton on the cheap 1-2 year deal.

But, will he end up on the Commish List? He could be out 4-6 on the Personal Conduct Policy.

 

That is probably part of the reason they haven't signed him yet. I believe his legal issue has been settled, but not any potential discipline from the league.

 

I don't know the guy, but many things I have read, and seen show He's not a very nice person

 

Available CBs: Xavien Howard, JC Jackson, Adoree Jackson, Sutton, Gilmore, Nelson, Peterson.

 

Nelson would have been a nice fit, but he didn't just burn that bridge. He pissed on the ashes.
