I think any player has the right to not play AND not get paid. The tricky part is how to handle bonus money already paid out. One way could be to “toll” a player’s contract. By that I mean that the remainder of a player’s contract is postponed by a year. If he has one year left on his deal for $10 million in 2020, he would now have $10 million for 2021 instead. It would also defer free agency because 2020 would not be an accrued season for that player.

If players are allowed to sit out the season and still get paid, I think it’s a travesty. Normal workers don’t have that option.

AB's ego is his own worst enemy and it wouldn't surprise me to see him dead broke in about 5-10 years.

What's the problem if sports are not essential?

Cam needs to make the best decision possible for himself and his family. People should at least try to understand that instead of passing judgement on him.

I don't think that the NFL or any team sports should play this year in America. Especially when considering we don't have people in this country that don't take the threat of COVID19 seriously.

Looks like your right, baseball just got grounded again because of testing:

NEW YORK -- Thirty-one Major League Baseball players and seven staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during intake for the resumption of training, a rate of 1.2%.

An agent once told me 95% of players are broke in 5 years. He said not one of his clients ever took his advice on investing. After signing a new contract, one of his players said he was smart. He told the player that signing the contract didn’t make you smart. It just made you rich.

Mark Brunner was my neighbor. His dad is/was a financial advisor. Mark just gave his dad his signing bonus. Smart guy.

I thought it was said that Heyward has asthma, and that might be a concern of his.

I don't think players who choose to sit out the season due to COVID should be paid. It is ridiculous for them to expect a check when they don't put in the work. It is even more ridiculous to expect Heyward to get an extension if decides not to play.

That said, it is incredibly unfair to criticize Heyward for what he said or if he does choose to sit out. Just because most of us don't have the choice to stop working during the pandemic doesn't mean Heyward is doing something wrong by thinking about putting his well-being ahead of the game. I don't know if he has invested wisely, but if he thinks he has enough money to sit out a year or retire right now, he is absolutely within his rights to do so. I also have asthma. While there is some research indicating that people with asthma are a bit more resistant to contracting COVID, we are also more likely to die from it. If I had the money to do it, there's no way I'd be going back to work in the fall. I don't have that option, but I'm not going to criticize those who are lucky enough to be able to make that call.

Thank you both for your service!:hi:

I have a good friend that is a nurse. She is originally from New Jersey. She is currently working around the clock. A close friend and mentor to her in the nursing field passed away due to Covid 19. She was in her 40s. She also has a family member that passed away from Covid. She is scared to death about coming home contaminated, and her 3 boys getting it. If you need this thing to hit home for you, stop by and have a 5 minute conversation with her. She rarely goes 2 minutes without crying at this point.

People are worried right now. If a player, or players decide to sit the season out I understand that. Those players should NOT be paid, and the missed year should NOT go toward Free Agency. Any bonus money that was pre-paid should come directly off the players 2021 salary.

I will not think any less of Cam if he doesnt play.

Nice passive aggressive little comment there. How many times have you seen Cam Heyward use an inhaler on a sideline after playing professional football?

Not that i truly care . He can do whatever he wants.

What was the point of that second sentence? Were you implying that Heyward doesn't really have asthma because you haven't seen him use an inhaler often enough? My apologies if I'm misreading your point.

Most asthma medication is taken ahead of time, not while the person is having trouble breathing. The idea is to prevent an attack rather than try to treat one after it starts. It is also important to understand that exercise, such as playing football, does not put the same strain on the respiratory system as a symptomatic case of COVID-19. Just because Heyward's asthma is relatively well controlled when he plays football doesn't mean he isn't at greater risk of severe respiratory distress or death if he were to contract COVID.
