Why not just say that instead of feeding bs to everyone.

One always has to keep in mind that Austin had back-to-back 1,000+ yards seasons. I think the Steelers had him marked for a gadget guy that they could plug in this offense to makes plays. But as fate would have it, Austin got hurt right away and to the worst possible place for a guy like him, his foot. Not sure exactly what he did, but apparently it was more severe than just a sprain or pull. I don't think he was injured as I saw some plays from him in camp and he was pretty quick as well as shifty for a 4th round pick.

It shouldn't be any major loss.

That does not surprise me, and given that you keep him. As u said I don't think it would happen, but with only a few days left, desperation sets in.

I was hoping he would be able to give us a spark. Oh well let's hope
next year he can provide that spark and competition to other WR's.

As I mentioned on another thread, I'm not just guessing here. I've had this conversation with more than one surgeon who deals with foot injuries. The larger factor is the weight and pressure put on feet, so bigger is worse, not better for feet.

Gary Clark of the Redskins was a similar height/weight.

Yup, though to be fair, he retired nearly 30 years ago.

Why bother spending a draft pick on him then? It's not like he shrunk since the draft.

Because his size didn't keep him from being an explosive playmaker in college. It did help the Steelers get him later.

Right, I am responding to people on here saying he wasn't activated because he's too small.

The Steelers have a history of drafting small players. Dri Archer, Chris Rainey both come to mind.

Those were running backs. The lack of size would be a much bigger issue for a running back than a wide receiver.

Missing this season will hurt Austin's chances next year in making the team. Steelers will likely draft 2 WRs in '23.

That was one of the reasons why I hoped he would play and show something, to save the Steelers from themselves.

Why in the world would we spend 2 of our 5 draft picks on WRs? I think we draft ZERO WRs next year.

    For 2023
    DJ under contract
    Claypool under contract
    Pickens under contract
    Austin under contract
    Gunner under contract

Because that's what the Steelers do. There's a pattern.

Because next year is Claypools last season. DJ and him will be up for new contracts, only one will be back.

Draft someone next year and have someone ready to step in the following year.

Gunner ain’t it and can’t count on Austin.

I don't have a clue, but I'm the wrong person to ask....if it was up to Me we would only draft Defense, and OL.

We have the highest paid defense in the NFL now. I hope if we draft defense we get a couple guys that can play
