Steelers Depot reporting: Leftwich one-year deal expected to be $825,000 plus signing bonus & should come with reduced cap hit of $540,000 plus SB

True - but having 2 capable backups is a nice luxury.

    Exactly!
Not sure who some of these guys want as back-ups. Johnny Unitas?

    I'll take it
Draft a rookie later on, Cousins or Osweiler and we're good to go at QB.

Uh, maybe a backup who can stay healthy for an entire year. Leftwich has spent most of the last two seasons on IR.

they didnt even use the back ups when they needed to last year, it was ridiculous, why eat up a roster spot for 3 qbs when we really need a back up and wheel a broken ben out there... thats why you pay a backup... stupid

Meh, I'm not Lefty's biggest fan by any stretch. Though I'm also not entirely down with the idea that signing an unknown will be necessarily better, especially as said rookie is unlikely to see the field much (a la Dixon). So it's a safe, cheap, signing, and he can always get cut in camp if someone like Smith of Johnson prove themselves to be much better.
