I'll "come out" and say that I have suffered from a milder form of depression called dysthymia back to the time of the 70s Super Bowl wins. They should have a rehab for it- let alone a cure- because it sucks as much as any kind of physical illness.

Whatever happens Martavis- get well soon. This fan is rooting for you for that.

I guess the good news is that Bryant was a 4th rounder and doesn't have a big contract. Mike Maycock's draft analysis for Sammie Coates said pretty much the same thing that was said about Bryant:

"This guy is pure speed. He's big bodied and takes the top off of zones. He is a height-weight-speed specimen. The only question is how natural are his hands."

I may be over-optimistic but I think Coates will be fine.

This won't kill us but it still sucks. If he's truly that depressed I hope he gets the help he needs now, however, I can't believe that he, someone in his family, his agent or someone else involved with the team wouldn't have taken steps to make sure he didn't get in even more trouble because of it.

I'm pretty sure ( but not 100 % positive) that the NFL has programs and people in place to deal with drug use and depression. They make billions off of this sport and players are their investments so even if they don't care about the -person- they dang sure care about their investments eh?

I couldn't care less if he failed a test or just missed tests this time. His decisions and actions resulted in his having failed multiple drug tests before this latest go 'round and the mess he now finds himself in.
Failed tests or missed tests he violated the rules - again.

I feel sorry for the guy, I honestly do, but I smoked my fair share and then some in my youth but when it came time to stop because my employer started doing drug testing I stopped. It wasn't even a question for me because others depended on me so..hey...easy decision right?
If it really is about the depression then he should have gotten help long before it got to this point because it's not all about him. It's also about his team, the NFL, the fans and, most importantly, his family.

Depression is horrible no doubt. Selfishness and irresponsibility are even worse and all of the talent in the world can't compensate for it.

    Just my opinion.

Right now, I have no opinion on this until all the facts are in. But he won't be back this season. So I want Tomlin and company to decide who's going to be the guy on the other side of AB and go with that guy. Period. Decide early so that guy can get plenty of snaps and get comfortable in that position.

I never smoked a joint in my life, but I knew it was being used during my two years in Nam and since it was illegal in the military consequences were severe if caught in the act, so too the NFL renders harsh punishment for players who use it: Bryant needs to understand he is throwing away millions of dollars and a career if he cant control his addiction, using depression as an excuse for missing mandated testing is a weak cop out to avoid punishment for his actions in my opinion, and the bigger question is will the Rooneys keep giving him chances, or will they release him at some point to get rid of the distraction......

Except that you don't know if it is. The fact that he missed these tests would seem to indicate something deeper is going on and would in fact point to someone suffering from depression.

If he took the tests and failed and depression was being cited as the reason, that would be more suspicious to me.

Too bad MB's Dad didn't take him to a concert when he was 13 with the same observations as you. I haven't read all updated posts - but we're still not sure he's actually been a user since he got detected last year - we only know that he skipped testing appointments - right?

    EDIT - Just read TTF's update #@#$%$#@#$%^&*

I was trying to show how knucklehead WRs screw up, that's why I listed those 3 guys.

It sucks we won't get to see this offense as a whole next season so much wasted potential, I read that the Steelers didn't like some of the people Bryant was hanging out with.

Lets roll with who we got, We have to get Sammie Coates/ DHB up too speed quickly
the 60 receptions the Stoner was going to catch has to be made up somewhere. KC will
draft a wr to replace the doper.

James Harrison was just tested and said its a urin test and they make you drop your drawers to your feet and go while they watch.

Pretty simple to swap out bladder contents with a catheder. I'm sure drugs of all types are way more prevelant in the NFL than people think.

Does anybody think Bell and Blount were driving around stinking up the Burgh with the sticky icky and hoping to not get the random test...No Way.

Stuff stays detectable in your system for around a month. He must just hate catheders or some other stupid reason.
