Im watching NFL network and they said he missed the test. Incredible that bryant is this much of a knucklehead. They said at the absolute most he will miss 8 games after appeal. It sucks cause we all were dreaming of 30 pt blowouts but they will overcome this. The key to the season is bell staying healthy. We will get bryant back at some point and who knows maybe coates really step up. If there is one thing the steelers know how to do is draft recievers and coates appears that he could play. No worries we still have superbowl to win.........

Your own personal beliefs about marijuana don't mean anything, the players know the rules when they sign the contract. If they don't want to abide by the NFL rules, then they can find another profession . If Bryant is suffering from depression and it was because of missed tests he may have a chance on appeal.

Are we here to talk about the Steelers or lobby for changes to the law?

I believe TTF said not to derail this thread, so lets drop it.

    Back to Bryant.

I saw somewhere that he may only get 8 games. Even if its 10 games, we'll get him back for the stretch run which could make a already great offense an unstoppable one.

So, theres my gold at the end of the rainbow spin on a bad situation :clapping:

Anyone realize that by cutting Santonio Holmes for pot use, it resulted in us getting Antonio Brown? I also wonder how long the steelers are going to put up with Bryants immature behavior that keeps him off the field....

Santonio Holmes smoking pot is the reason Antonio Brown is a steeler

    Quote from self.steelers:

Just realized this, we traded Holmes away after his suspension because we didn't want to deal with him. We got a 5th round pick for him, which we then traded to Arizona for Bryant McFadden and a 6th round pick. That 6th round pick is what we drafted the best wide receiver in the league with. And then on top of that, Mike Wallace turning down that contract a couple years later gave AB a big extension. Crazy how things play out!

MORRIS MORRIS! Just put the BONG down. I know of 2 deaths using pot. Three of the guys in my platoon were lit up with it when we walked into an ambush. Luckily one guy kicked my legs out from under me or there would have been 3 dead. You know trying to jump from one building to the next while while stoned is a death caused by pot too. So chill out man! Listen to Nancy Regan and just say NO!

BTW that was the 1st and only time I ever tried any type of drugs. I did not like the fact I was too stoned to get down while getting shot at

I wasn't trying to debate the morality of the act itself.

As an example of what my point was:

It is against the law to evade taxes. We can all agree that evading taxes is immoral. The NFL does not (to my knowledge) conduct audits of every NFL player's tax returns. That is the equivalent of testing for marijuana regularly.

Even if we assume that marijuana is 100% illegal and immoral, it baffles me that the NFL chooses to be extra-judicious for this specific infraction.

The NFL does not pop-in 4x per year into player's apartments to make sure they don't beat their wives. The NFL does not conduct random breathalyzer tests on players while driving.

I am not claiming that Martavis wasn't negligent in getting this suspension.

I am lamenting that the NFL has chosen this issue to inspect. Especially given the pain management necessitated by the violent sport.

If you can't handle the pain (within the rules) , don't play the game.

I don't understand your point. I am questioning why the rules are in place.

It's not like the rules cannot be changed. They change all the time.

I am not saying that given the rules MB shouldn't be punished. We can even make the case that he should never have taken up football given his issues.

I am questioning why the rule exists in the first place. Why does the NFL choose this act to police beyond how normal citizens are policed.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The Steelers traded away Santonio for less in my opinion.

I would not be surprised if Colbert is shopping Bryant around from here on out.

I truly hope Martavis gets the help he needs for his depression and this is all sorted out, but I see shades of Limas Sweed.

The Coast guard can randomly drug test anyone in the my industry (as long as it's an inspected vessel). My company reserves the right to randomly drug test any of its 7,000 employees. We're all normal citizens..........

I think you are missing the jist of his point. It is less about what can be done and it's right and wrongness but rather why the league chooses this one issue and goes to such lengths enforcing it. An example would be Peterson or Rice. Peterson was suspended for a year and at no point before and after his punishment and reinstatement were there random check ups set up. Same with Rice no one is saying we are going to show up at random times and make sure your now wife isn't being abused.

This 100%! I understand why the NFL needs to test for Performance Enhancing Drugs as it actually impacts the integrity of the game itself. However, even the biggest Marijuana opponents have to admit it does not performance enhance in any way.

I'm not particularly referencing the Bryant case here, let's be honest - the Ray Rice case just showed up how nonsensical much of the NFL disciplinary procedures are.

I get the gist of what he's saying. I've heard the boo-hooing over the legal status of pot since I was a kid in the 60s! It's illegal in most states. The terms of your employment state that you can't do it or face suspension or termination. Whether you beat your wife or kid won't show up in a hair follicle test so..........

Depends. If MB has clinical depression, they will stand behind him. If he just can't lay off the weed, then you might be right.
