Well as long as the Team gets the extra year and that option then the Teams will actually be gaining in the long run ....The key is that extra year ...Basically if you must be paid now then the Team should be getting greater value in year 6 with the option to just move on with no hit ...

A lot of teams extend players with years left on their contract. It's not super common, but it certainly happens.

Other players can have their hands out, but that doesn't mean it's going to set any kind of precedent at all. There are only a small handful of players in the league that have the kind of impact that AB does. If a player comes calling a year early and says it's because we paid AB, all we have to do is point out that AB was the best player at his position for the past 3 years... Average or even good players won't be able to hold an argument for their case. Most of them would understand this fact beforehand anyways.

Of course it will. Right now, every player knows the Steelers won't budge on their policy, once the Steelers show they are willing too, all bets are off. Doesn't matter if they hold firm on the next guy and the next guy after that and the next guy after that, its a headache thats not needed.

Theres zero reason to renegotiate now, he's locked up.
