Holy moly that guy is tall.

This will eventually be moved to another forum, either "Other Sports" or "The Draft Room." Check out The Draft Room, you'll like it and it's getting bigger in there.

The last really tall QB I rememeber was Mark McGwire younger brother, Dan (I think). He was 6' 7" and built like his brother, a monstrous guy. But he threw footballs, like he'd throw darts, his entire throwing motion could be completed in a phone booth, he might as well have been 5' 11"

IMO, he's too tall for an NFL QB. Bet he gets converted to a TE by whoever sign him; assuming he's athletic.

i'm an asu alumnus and booster. i watched every game he ever played at asu (which is to say, this past year and two games from the previous season). this past year i flew back to tempe,az and watched him play in home games against mizzou, usc, uofa, and cal. i also traveled to road games at oregon, ucla, and washington st.

the kid is the real deal. i've pimped him before in other threads. anybody making a retarded enough comment about him being too tall . . . no comment. just an ignorant thing to say. most of the amatuer wannabe-mock draft experts have never so much as seen a down played by any of the people theyr'e pimping.

he's EXTREMELY mobile for a 6'8" kid. he has incredible accuracy. he worked with qb-guru noel mazzone at asu. mazzone was the first call jim mora,jr made, upon being hired at ucla, to be the oc of mora's offense.

i'm not pimping him merely because he's a sun devil. i think our highest-rated prospect, vontaze burfict, is an absolute cancer. i'm pimping 'oz' because he has the skill sets and the character. we could really use a REAL, young backup qb acquired through the mid-to-late rounds of the draft. i'd love to see us grab brock if he's there in the 4th or 5th.

he's a great kid. great character. great leadership skills. i would LOVE for us to pick him up.

I like him too, but I don't think he's going to last to our third round pick, never mind our 4th pick, which is where I think we should start looking for a backup qb.

Hey, I am an ASU alum, too! Woo-hoo!!! I agree with pretty much everything here. It'll be really interesting to see how he'll do, because I did think he should have stayed for his senior season.

unfortunately, i think he was kind of 'forced out' when the city of pittsburgh's current public enemy number one, todd graham, was hired to bring his 'high octane' spread offense to asu after dennis erickson was fired. the system didn't really fit a pro style qb like brock and so he felt like his draft stock wouldn't have a chance to grow in a senior season so he bolted.

fortunately, the devils have a stud freshman who spurned pitt and utah to go to asu, michael eubank (tall black kid, athletic, perfect fit for the spread offense) and just landed a four-star rb who spurned usc and cal to become a sun devil.

by the way, it doesn't look like there's any chance we could land brock osweiler. his ascenscion in the mocks is staggering. apparently, todd mcshay thinks seattle might even roll the dice on oz with the eleventh-pick in the first round.

Wanderer, please elaborate on Osweiler's plusses/minuses - other than he is a good character guy, which is awesome by the way. I'm just not familair with the guy and haven't heard much about him. So, for him to show up on the radar as a 1st round prospect at this point in time, is odd. Your explanation of why he opted to enter the draft rather than return for Sr. year seems to make sense. I haven't done any homework on the guy. Just wondering what tangibles you can describe on the kid. I believe that we need to be finding a replacement for Ben in the next year or two who can learn from Ben and be groomed. Obviously Dixon wasn't that guy and why we drafted him is still a head-scratcher. I honestly believe that 4-5 more seasons will be about it for BR - if he doesn't get broken in two before then.

i agree. we need a REAL backup qb for ben. by REAL, i mean a kid we draft out of college and serve as an apprentice under ben. with no real threat to taking ben's job, but a guy you can count on to stay healthy (as opposed to these old vets like leftwich and batch that can't even stay on the field) and you can count on to produce (like flynn in green bay if/when called upon). and, a guy who might be able to take the reins in 5 or so years as ben gets older. and, if nothing else, a guy who steps in and plays here and there and creates scott mitchell/kevin kolb-type of market value so we can get something real nice in return down the road rather than simply letting their contract and out, waving goodbye, and saying, "yeah, you sucked." (dennis dixon).

    what i like about oz:
    *size (6'8")
*athleticism-he's not your tall, uncoordinated, stiff, immobile dan mcgwire type of 6'8", the kid can run. he's more mobile than ben. not in a, shrug off defenders type of way, but the kid can run with the football. he had originally signed on to play basketball at gonzaga.
*big arm-he can throw the deep ball better than our current franchise qb can
*accurate-63% completion percentage (with a lot of drops)
*doesn't turn the ball over-31td's to 13int's over his sophomore and junior seasons (declared after junior year)
*his offense put pts on the board-33.2ppg offensively in his junior year
*makes all the throws-worked with perhaps the top qb coach in college football, noel mazzone, who has served as an OC for several ncaa programs (asu, ole miss, nc state, oregon state, auburn, and now ucla, as well as a stint as OC for the ny jets)
*resilient-plays his best when the team needs a drive late in the game
*potential-played only one full year as a starter and the leaps he made each year at asu were huge. he's a great student of the game and just keeps getting better.
*he's very similar to ben in style of play only he has a much better character

If we get Brock Osweiler I will be the happiest person in the world..we will be in contention for a long time. I just don't think we will take him before round 4..and by then he will be gone

No thanks, What was the Browns tall qb for awhile, then he went to Arizona.
Anderson? Is he out of football now? Real Tall Qb's need room to throw and plant, thats why
they are not sucessful in the NFL. They need a large landing area for their stride.
In laymans terms they need a clean pocket. If you think the Steelers can provide this then maybe we do need this guy?

derek anderson is tall . . . derek anderson sucked . . . therefore, all tall quarterbacks will forever suck

along the same line of logic . . . i'm making farting sounds with my armpits.

Anderson went to Oregon St didnt he? I only saw 2 games with the Arizona ST guy the Washington ST game and the Illinios games. I didnt come away from those games thinking he is the answer to anything, but i always believe QB's get too much credit for wins anyway. If he can be efficient at the next level I wouldnt mind him getting drafted.
