Good. Cortez Allen has done nothing to show he's worth that new contract.

$5.4 Mil dead money after this season, but it frees up just over $1.5 Mil, so the net loss would be $3.8 Mil or so. I'd say there is close to 0% chance of his release happening barring something bizarre happening.

of all the signings, this one puzzled me. Why wouldn't they make Cortez go out and prove himself before they locked him up?

I hope McCain is the answer. Texans have lost 2 in a row. Bellicheck's prodigy haven't faired well in the NFL. Being a Penn State fan, I'm hoping the O'Brien lays an egg.

Pitt West might be interested in trading for him.

Cool, will be nice to see what he brings to the table. Now start Tuitt for good and give McCullers the roster spot that Cam Thomas takes up and we'll be in a better position, not only immediate but also long term.

And in this current time, that would be an upgrade.

Has any player ever been benched this soon after signing a big new deal?

I'm sure Tomlin is trying to wake Allen up in much the same way Cowher woke Ike up a few years ago by benching him for a few games. Hope it works! I still don't understand why the Steelers signed him to a long term deal and invested so much in really a still unproven commodity. It seems like a panic move after allowing Keenan Lewis to get away.

Didn't he just get a standard contract for a CB? Its not like they paid him above and beyond, or did they? Also, IIRC, Keenan had done nothing to date at this point either but by the time the end of the season came around and he was playing much better, it was too late.

I dont have a problem with giving him a contract, it may work out in their favor if he puts it together like Kennean did. Either way, they need to be able to field a team and they have no one better behind him.

Didn't McCain used to play for the Texans? Maybe Tomlin thinks he's gonna go in to that game with a little extra attitude and sort of an "I'll teach you to not give ME a contract" mentality? Grasping at straws but so are the Steelers. LOL.

Cortez is a 4th. or 5th. CB at best ..He can play good enough to guard a 4th. or 5th. WR, he has no place guarding a #1 , #2 , #3 WR . So if we can get at least 2 CB'S better than him in front of him he will be O.K.

Just crazy to me that the Team couldn't see he can't play at that level neither can Gay he is a # 3 or # 4 ... We should draft all DB'S next year we need at least 3 CB'S and FS and a SS ...We have missed the boat the spread O coming to a town near you and we are way, way, behind in coverage guys...

Gay is the best DB we have on this team. Thats not saying much I guess but just felt that I should point that out since Gay has taken a beating on this board.

Being the best DB and its distinction on this team I guess is like being the tallest midget .. Huh BFT? lol

We don't get to see what the coaches see in practice, maybe they see Allen improving or developing at the same rate as Lewis was and so they give him a contract now to make sure he stays. That said, Keenan Lewis wouldn't have stayed with the Steelers for anything but an obscene amount of money, think franchise QB money, he wanted to go to a warmer climate and was willing to take less if the Saints were interested since that is where he wanted to go in the first place. In that regard the team just didn't leave him walk, there was no way they could keep him and maybe getting benched will make him work on his technique harder and possibly come back a little better.
