With the recent news on the Wallace Tender I say the chance of him staying is about 20%.....As I stated in other threads we need to trade for extra early picks IMO.....

I will put a Mock draft together later, but my point is we should get Brian Quick if we get a extra 2nd. round pick....According to ESPN he was one of the few players who didnt drop a ball in the Gauntlet in either run he also caught every pass in the other drills according to that report....His proday is March the 19th. and the local buzz is expect a lot of NFL staffs here in Boone N.C......

I contend one of our biggest problems in the Redzone is a redzone type WR....A guy who can post up,a guy who can run the fade,a guy who can out jump the DB for the ball,a guy who has strong sure hands and is strong enough to go in the middle over and over again....

Quick is just such a guy his track and BBall background shows while he is on the field....The kid knows how to box out and he has the ability to leap and snatch balls from the air.....

He is also a great run blocker ,not just a shadow blocker he actually enjoys blocking ,he told me this and you can see it on the tape....This skill set combined with his other skills will make him a valuable Redzone piece...

I can only imagine how good he will become in the NFL..Just look at the passing window his frame and his skills will give a QB ,he can go up and get balls that are thrown 14 yards high and the most Important part is he has the hands to actually secure the catch and the frame to absorb the contact....

O.K enough pimp for the moment,,,,I will close with speed is not the only element that requires a double Team and Speed is negated the closer you get to the GL.....Size and leaping ability combined with great hands will give Defenses nightmares near the GL.....There is a valid reason Ben has asked for big WR'S and to get one of great character with great hands would be a huge plus for the entire oranization.....

Coach T,,,,please come to Boone N.C. on the 19th.......lol...

I am making the move for Stephen Hill...If Wallace comes back...might be just for one year anyway.....If Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Hill work....great...keep them in place,....If Wallace leaves...Hills steps in as the deep baller

In light of the recent departures and salary cap now available, I fully expect Wallace to be re signed to a long term deal.... right, wrong or otherwise.

Assuming the Steelers do re-sign Wallace, the need for a receiver becomes small, if we resign cotchery it becomes almost nil. It might be good to draft some 6' 4" guy in the 6th round, but the name brand guys we shouldn't even worry about. Too many other needs.

i wouldn't assume anything at this point. if we don't sign him. sanders would be the number 2. sanders has given no reason to think he would be healthy the full season. even if we sign cotchery, i'm not real thrilled with going into the season with brown and cotchery as our starting wr's compared to what we had. we would be in big trouble i'm afraid. we very well better get another good one.

I completely disagree.....WR went from being a strength of the team to a huge need. One reason I have been so interested in bringing back Sweed as it would not take a draft pick that could be used elsewhere.

If Wallace signs his 1 year tender...and someone takes him....that leaves us with Brown and Sanders and not one else at WR.

If Wallace signs his 1 year tender...and no one takes him...that leaves Wallace, Brown, and Sanders as free agents for next year.

Best case scenario...the Steelers need 3 more WR's to go with Wallace, Brown, and Sanders.....even if they sign Cotch...they need 2 more.....and at least one of them needs to be signed with the idea that you wont be able to keep all 3 of the YMC next season.

WR went from after thought...to major need IMO.....and shoved NT way down on the list as you still have your starter/and backup from the end of the season here.

ILB, WR, G are the top 3 needs now IMO.

i agree about it becoming and being a huge need. i went round and round with huge snack on this subject in the and at pick 24 the steelers pick... thread. i'm not however as high on the thought of sweed as you are hack. now the thought of hill i'm starting to warm up to alot. i wouldn't mind hill and then streeter in round 4. we would be sitting pretty and could work on cotchery as a what he is player more then a real need player. we may get him or we may not, but there wasen't a large crowd going after him last year either. i think he's doable for us. next year we work on keeping brown and we will have some flexability with sanders. he shouldn't cost us tons to keep.

Im not as high on Sweed as most think....I am high on the possibility of Sweed vs spending multiple picks on WR's when the needs are now many.

If you bring Sweed to camp and he works out like the 2nd round pick we all thought he could be...then you just found a diamond...that cost you nothing.

If you bring Sweed to camp and he does not work out....like many on here already think...then you cut him...and it still costs you nothing.

It really is risk vs reward...the risk is low....the reward could be high.

It mostly comes down to many on the board think all Sweeds problems were his.....and I truly believe with all my mind and heart, that Sweed was a victim of circumstances. You were buried on the depth chart behind Ward, Santonio, Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Cotchery....thats some good WR's right there, add in that BA was not a fan, BA did not have situational football in mind, and Sweed did get injured last year when most figured it was his last chance. Sweed did himself no favors when he sulked once the writing was on the wall....but I think many would do the same at there job if their manager was against him.

Now BA is gone, Ward, Tone, Cotchery....You can't tell me Sweed is not capable of being a #4 WR in this league.....but maybe he is not...its still risk vs reward.

My 6 WR's this year would be Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Sweed, Lyons, Hills......You have speed, youth, size....some with all of those combined......and I don't for a minute pull Brown off return duty yet....you can get hurt on any play of the game....he is the best returner on the team.

that makes sense. i think his problem is more in his head then anywhere else. i think it will keep him from ever finding his true potential in the league.

i'd love hills and streeter to both be here. streeter wasen't used properly in miami his first few years. harris was terrible as a qb, yet so many praise his game for some reason. streeter finally started showing what he was capable of last year, and could have been much better with a good qb. the potential hasen't even been tapped yet. we are talking two big fast receivers to go with brown, sanders and possibly cotchery and wallace. even if wallace isn't signed and lost, these two could become the new brown and wallace or sanders. again making kev colbert look like a genious. this would make us scary good at the wr. spot even moreso then we are now. it would also ease the loss of wallace a little more. i think he's as good as gone if they tender him.

don't forget the little guy from wisconsin they have on the team as a return man. the only problem being is placing them all in the 53 man rotation and where to put him on gameday.

I guess I'm just having a problem with the idea that wide receiver is a huge need. As of today, when I'm writing this, we have Wallace, Brown, Sanders. Most teams would kill to have that trio. Cotchery has said publicly that he would like to stay with the Steelers. We lost Hines, which hurts from a loyalty standpoint but from a production standpoint doesn't. and we lost Battle, who hasn't had a catch in two years.
There are a lot of ifs, and when the time comes, we deal with them. IF Wallace gets lured away by a big contract, then we replace him in the draft. IF we don't resign Cotchery we replace him with a 5th or 6th rounder. IF Sanders gets hurt again, we move the number 4 guy up.
But stop with the hypothetical situation. The reality is this: as of today, our receiving corps is a huge strength. Our offensive line is a huge weakness. Both of our nosetackles from last year are not going to be there to start the year, and may be gone. We just cut our starting middle linebacker, his back up is 35 years old and doesn't have more than one or two more years in his tank, and no one on the roster has shown the ability to step into their shoes.
When we get these immedeate needs filled, then we should start dealing with the "if"s. We can't afford to be going after big name guys in the first couple of rounds because they are big names. We need to deal with our biggest problems, and if someone majically falls (say Jeffrey in the third, or hills or quick inthe 4th, or streeter in the 6th) then we grab him.

actually as of today we really only have Brown and Sanders....Wallace is a RFA, Cotch is a FA, and Ward and Battle are cuts.

That's better than what we have at linebacker and especially at nose tackle and guards.

Yes we do have some depth at WR even in Wallace goes, but we don't have a true huge target who can convert on those medium patterns...

A guy of this nature helps the ILB and the NT position....Teams are going more to the spread and in turn those 2 positions should be valued lower IMO....

Is exactly why I feel we should go OG in round #1 and if we get a extra pick for Wallace go Big WR then look for NT and ILB later in the draft.....

If ILB or NT is the BPA at pick #24 I say we trade back....Those 2 spots just don't take enough snaps for me to be 1st. round picks....

26 Teams at Quick day some had multiple reps there...The AD says the other 6 NFL Teams that didn't show have scheduled private workouts...Reports are he impressed the 30 some pro scouts...As I have stated before if Wallace gets signed away this kid would be a steal in round #2.....I think he goes before we pick in round #2...

This is true he is not a speedster ,but does run a steady 4.5 and plays faster he has trouble getting up into a Football stance from a track stance , but when he is standing he comes off the line just as fast as any other WR in this draft...

The thing that Impresses me most is his route running...For a guy who has only 5 years playing Football he runs exceptional routes...As you stated he is very sure handed he also has body control and leaping ability.....

He will be an immediate Redzone threat in the NFL ,he is a great guy and is very humble and Loves to work hard....As stated he probably won't make it to our pick in round #2 ,but if he is there we need to jump all over it...

Damn just what we don't need....It seems New England is very high on Quick the local buzz is if he is there for them in round #2 it's a done deal....

Please let someone else pick him or make a offer for Wallace so we can trade back a little and get him.....Trust me when I say this.... Quick will make the Patriots pretty much unstoppable in the Redzone.... Granted they are a beast already ,but Quick is drawing Moss like comparisons skill wise and I know this kid he is a saint.....

When you put his skill set with his work ethic the sky is the limit......As I stated I hope another Team drafts him berfore the Pats....

I watched this kid workout the other day and Coaches where throwing balls to a spot 14 yards high within a 3 or 4 yard window and this kid looked like one of the best WR'S I have ever seen....Out of the 20 or so balls he caught like 15 or so and a lot of those throws where horrible.....Quick has sick body control and he has God like hands while being in the air up there...Please lord don't let a precision passer like Brady get a weapon like this...

I would Love it for Brian ,but it would really hurt the Steelers...

I was going to try and film some with my phone for you guys, but the Coach made sure no one got in with a camera or a phone...I wished you could have seen what I saw....Before that moment there was only 3 guys I would take ahead of him at the WR spot and now I am not so sure......I would have to see the others in person lol...

I thought it was you who had the Quick thread and that you'd probably be tooting your own horn. I think (like some of the announcers and others) that there we better WRs on the board at that time...but hey if they like him and didnt want to chance loosing him later...good for them to get him.

Well not really a yea for me type thing ,just that there is a reason he went so high,I wanted him to be a Steeler,I just had to take a lot of flack from some peeps who thought he would go in the 3rd. and 4th. round.....

The bottom line is it just shows how much the draft is changing.....As you eluded to Teams are pulling the trigger on potential talent and on specialist a lot earlier than they use to......Simply because the Rookie pay scale is working and I am very happy it worked for Quick...His upside is just to high to leave on the board ,I seen his skills in a work out and I was sure someone else had.....He is also a great guy ,very clean and very humble,he is a Team player.....
